Weekly Update

Eagle Day

We are hosting "Eagle Day" on Tuesday August 20th. Come to MSE anytime between 9:00 AM and 5:00PM. Come pick up your schedule, turn in important paperwork, and meet some of the staff! If you DID NOT receive your Welcome Back Packet in the mail, please bring a current utility bill to Eagle Day and stop in the main office to see Mrs. Brossoit.

MSE Wellness Time

We believe that at heart, middle schoolers are still kids! Kids deserve a break during the day to socialize, have fun, make new friends, or just burn some energy! This year at MSE we are instituting time built into every lunch period called "Wellness Time" but you can think of it as a middle school version of recess. After kids finish their lunch, they'll have the opportunity to earn some time to socialize and play with friends in the gym. Whether that be board games in our multi purpose space, basketball, cornhole, whatever! We want to provide as many different outlets to kids as possible as a fun way to socialize and take a break in the middle of their day. We could use some parent help though!!! Attached below is an Amazon List to help get this program off the ground and having the equipment necessary to give kids options! If you could help us out by purchasing something off the list (it will ship it right to MSE--or just an Amazon gift card!) or if you have any sports equipment, games, fun stuff that's still in good condition you would want to donate we would gladly put it to good use with kids! If you have any questions, or would like to donate stuff you already have--or buy from somewhere other than Amazon -- you can contact Mr. MacIntosh (assistant princiapl) at macinza@lc-ps.org or at 586-493-5200

MSE Cell Phone Policy

Middle School East is a Cell Phone Free School. This means that student cell phones are not to be used between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:04pm. During that time they are explicitly to be kept in the student's locker if they are brought to school. Cell phones are not to be carried on the student's person. The only exception would be if it's a part of the student's 504 plan or IEP. Students who bring a cell phone to class will have it taken away and sent to the office for pickup at the end of the day. with parent contact made. On the second offense it will be held in the main office until it can be picked up by a parent. Further instances will lead to behavioral discipline according to the LCPS Student Code of Conduct.

MSE Character Pillars - the 4 R's

For our new parents, and also a reminder for our returning parents, we have 4 Character Pillars that drive all that we do with students during their time here at MSE. These 4 traits, known collectively as the "4 R's," will be the common language we use in the classroom, working with students, and learning. We will have weekly Character Education lessons known as "Wellness Wednesdays" that draw on topics related to one of the Rs. At East, we are all about Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Relationships. As we work with students on these character traits, we are excited to witness the positive impact they will have on our students' personal growth, academic achievement, and future success.

Welcome New Teachers!

Over the summer we were blessed to add three terrific staff members to our already stellar team here at MSE! Please join us in welcoming the newest additions to our teaching team and East Community make sure to say "hello" when you see them this year!

School Pictures

Kaiser Studios will be at Middle School East on Tuesday August 27th to take student pictures. Please see the enclosed order form. The school receives a contribution from Kaiser Studios for the building’s general use for school activities

Attendance

Attendance at school is very important, and we want every kid at MSE every day where they can best learn! Please make every effort to have your child in school, and on time, every day. In the event that a child has to miss school for being sick, or for an appointment, documentation is required (doctors note, etc). According to the LCPS Board Policy and Code of Conduct, any student who misses 10 days of school will receive and letter and may be referred to the Macomb County Truancy Officer.

School Lunch and Breakfast

We are pleased to share that all students will be able to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch at school each day. To help us continue to receive important funding for our building, we need each family to please take a few minutes to complete the Education Benefits form. You may log into the Family Portal at lansecreuse.familyportal.cloud then click on "Apply for Benefits." This is for ALL families, regardless of your financial situation. This is crucial for us at MSE to get accurate up-to-date information so we can service students and families.

LCPS will no longer be utilizing NutriSlice for school menus this year. Menus will be uploaded monthly to the LCPS Food and Nutrition site but will also be included here in the Eagle Weekly.
