Walsh Construction selected to rebuild Washington Bridge in Providence

Providence, Rhode Island - Walsh Construction has been awarded the $427 million contract to rebuild the westbound Washington Bridge in Providence, Rhode Island, with a completion target of November 2028. Walsh Construction completes bioreactor walls at Sunnyvale WPCP

Sunnyvale, California - Walsh Construction recently completed the exterior walls for Bioreactors 1 and 2 at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant’s Secondary Treatment Project. This milestone marks the placement of over 2,000 cubic yards of Class D concrete across 20 separate pours from December 2023 to June 2024. These walls will contain the bioreactor, which will use microorganisms to break down organic pollutants in wastewater as part of the plant’s advanced secondary treatment process.

This project will enhance the plant’s ability to manage higher wastewater flows and meet future environmental regulations through a new conventional activated sludge system. Walsh Construction is building new aeration basins, secondary clarifiers, a blower facility, flow distribution structures, and a sidestream treatment facility. The project also includes a new thickening and dewatering building to manage biosolids, complete with odor control systems, improving both performance and community impact.

Walsh Construction joint venture completes accelerated demolition of I-90 Bridge

Newton/Weston, Massachusetts - Over two consecutive weekends, crews from Walsh Construction and SPS New England completed the dual rapid‐construction operations for the I‑90 bridge demolition over the MBTA railroad in Newton and Weston.

These intensive efforts have advanced the removal and replacement of the mainline bridge span, setting the stage for subsequent ramp replacements (A/B and G) and mainline I‑90 bridges over I‑95 and the Charles River. The accelerated weekend schedule minimized longer-term traffic disruption while keeping the project on track for completion by 2028.

The overall project includes the replacement of the 1,020-foot-long, 4 span I-90 bridge over I-95 and the Charles River as well as three bridges in the ramp configuration. There are two additional superstructure replacements, including the I-90 bridge over the MBTA/CSX rail, and three bridges requiring rehabilitation.
