ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: GAIL TURLUCK
Since graduating from Wisconsin, Gail has had many professional positions: Legal Assistant, Meteorology Assistant, Financial Advisor, and Home Health Agency Manager, among others. Gail currently works as the Executive Director of the Regional Sailing Association Lake Michigan Sail Racing Foundation.
As a freshman, Gail swept the Freshman Ice Breaker hosted by Notre Dame. She also won the Big 10 regatta at Purdue and participated in the Timme Angsten Memorial Regatta. She became team captain in 1976 and was elected to the MCSA Board. As a team member, she cherished all the professional experiences she could gain, and she made lifelong friends while sailing.
Gail keeps sailing in her life in many ways. She's the executive director of the Regional Sailing Association Lake Michigan Sail Racing Foundation and the US Sailing Area K coordinator. She is a commodore of the Gull Sailing Lake Club.
Turluck is the Midwest Region Representative for the US Sunfish Class Association. She is a non-resident member of Jackson Park Yacht Club (Chicago). She's a member of and webmaster for the Gull Lake Ice Yacht Club (She has two DNs and a Skimmer 45).
Turluck serves College Sailing as Chair of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Hall of Fame Committee and the Afterguard, a loosely organized alumni group for college sailing.
She belongs to the National Women's Sailing Association, International Sunfish Class Association, Tartan 10, Class Association, International DN Ice Yachting Association, Scuttlebutt, Sailing Club, Island Goat Sailing Society, and the US Sailing Association.
In addition to this, she has won the Chicago-Mackinac race 4 times.
Her era Hoofer Alumni have a Zoom reunion irregularly and just made their plans for the 45th Commodore's Cup. They always said, "Be there or be square!"
GOALS FOR SPRING SEASON 2024
Speaking to the sailors on their goals for the season, many sailors aim to gain more experience in Team Racing. Our coach, Ian Beckley, has been leading weekly meetings going over different Team Racing drills and helping us understand how to achieve the desired outcomes better.
The Wisconsin Sailing Team Endowment
Our Endowment fund is now LIVE on our website. As a club-run team, we have to organize much of the funds ourselves, and with your help, we aim to ensure the success of the Wisconsin Sailing Team for years to come. Linked below is the donation link and the Endowment Video:
