Dear Parents/Guardians,
In recent months, a number of issues have been brought to my attention relating to the school car park. Often pick up and collection times are both busy and stressful for parents I am also acutely aware that as the school has grown, our car park is too small.
Disabled Bays
Please note that these bays should only be used by blue badge holders or taxis for the LRC.
Damage to Cars
In recent months, we have had several instances of damage to cars (staff and parents) reported to the school office. Several members of staff and numerous parents are frustrated by this issue. Whilst everyone understands that accidents can occur, it is important that we respect the property of others. Please be mindful when opening your car doors near other cars.
Issue to the Rear of the School Building
If you are using the area at the rear of the school, please take care when reversing and turning. This area has become busy and it is fairly narrow. Some classes finish school slightly earlier and a child may walk past your car when you are not expecting them to. I am also going to speak to pupils, reminding them that it is important that they do not dash across the road at the end of the school day.
I am exploring a plan to section different areas of the car park to try and improve the movement around the site. When I have more information on this, I will share it with parents and carers.
Thank you for your understanding and support,
Mr. Williams.
Attendance
Thank you for your continued support with attendance. I understand that since children have returned to school, there have been several illnesses circulating. However, I cannot reiterate enough the importance of good school attendance.
For the month of September, we achieved a whole school attendance of 94.5%. This is a significant improvement on this time last year.
Challenge - if we can achieve 98% as a school next week, we will all have a special treat on Friday! We can do it!
Rugby Champions!!
Our aim is to provide as much inclusive sport as possible at Johnston and we are very proud of our pupils. Last week, a group of boys in years five and six attended the Pembrokeshire Rugby competition. It is always difficult to succeed in events like this as son many schools bring strong teams. Several of our players were playing rugby for the first time. However, our pupils were absolutely incredible and won the tournament to be Pembrokeshire Champions! Pupils now look forward to representing Pembrokeshire in the Welsh Finals which will be held in Aberystwyth during the spring.
PGCE Students
You may have noticed two or three additional adults in the school building recently. We have a partnership with both the Open University and Aberystwyth University which means that students are placed at our school. They only place students at schools which are judged as good or better and the school benefits both financially and from the extra support. Students will never be left alone to teach a class and all lessons will be carefully planned and delivered with the support of our class teachers.
Pembrokeshire Cross-Country Update
It is with regret that I must inform you that the Pembrokeshire Cross Country event has been cancelled this year. It has been held during the last week of the first half of the autumn term for almost forty years and I have fond memories of attending the event. Unfortunately, Sport Pembrokeshire have been forced to make significant savings this year and as such, they have taken the decision to cancel this event.
Running Event for November!
Johnston C.P. School will be supporting a night run in November. Why not come down and join us?
School Disco
The Friends of Johnston School are back with an Autumn term event!
Senior Prefects 2023
We are very proud to introduce to you our senior prefects for 2023. We had a very strong field of applicants who all offered different skills and brought different ideas to the role. However, this group really stood out in their commitment to making Johnston an excellent school. Charlie and Ava are our head boy and head girl, with Noah, Jack, Ella and Phoebe supporting them as deputies.
As well as working with me and providing a strong pupil voice, our senior leadership team are excellent role models around school. They understand the importance of hard work and they are always kind and polite.
Da iawn pawb!
Autumn Term Clubs - Update
Apologies on my part, there has been a little bit of confusion as to when and where pupils should be collected from after school clubs. All clubs will finish at 16:25 and pupils will be dismissed at the front of the school building (the school office area).
