Welcome back!

week 1

We welcomed the week with something brand new – our very first Oracy Assembly alongside Year 3! The children sat together in a large circle and practised important speaking and listening skills. They took part in partner talk and learned how to summarise key ideas, focusing on the important topic of online safety.

In PE, we have started learning how to play handball. The children explored the different roles of attacking and defending, practising at teamwork, quick movement and decision-making.

In English, we have been absolutely loving our new class reader, The Witches by Roald Dahl. The children have been so engaged with the story that we have started writing our own play scripts inspired by the book! We spent lessons exploring different scripts, deciding which characters we would include, and creating our own story maps to help plan the action.

During our Spanish lessons, the children have started learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish! They have enjoyed recognising familiar parts of the story while learning new vocabulary and practising their pronunciation. Muy bien, Year 4!

We were also excited to welcome the STEMtastic team from the NUFC Foundation, who will be working with us throughout this half term. We are looking forward to taking part in fun STEM activities and developing our curiosity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

To finish the week, the children who achieved the best attendance last half term were rewarded with a special attendance party on Friday!

Well done for a fantastic first week back Year 4!
