About ART/Word

Since 1981 the ART/Word Collaborative has been exhibiting illustrative works of art, based on a wide variety of themes. Our contributing members pair written text with art that is especially created for this event.

Show Thesis

Authenticity is usually associated with firm and indisputable facts – empirical data that can be examined and verified. Authenticity can also be associated with a feeling – something experienced in the gut that has a resonance similar to a musical chord that resolves a melody. It provides a healing moment to ease a tension. It feels right and true.

The absence of authenticity may extend uncertainty or confusion. It often means the search for clarity, truth and justice are not in plain sight and more struggle may need to be endured.

Twenty-five artists have been asked to reflect on authenticity and, through words and image, react to this notion in any way that feels relevant to their lives.
