KINGYSPIRIT Newsletter ISSUE 5 | TERM 4 | WEEK 10 | 16 December 2025

PRINCIPAL’S COLUMN

End of School Year

As we conclude the school year, we reflect on a period that has been both engaging and significant for our school community. I would like to emphasise the importance of regular attendance; every day at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, social development, and the building of life-long skills. Please note that the final day of Term 4 for all students and staff will be Friday 19 December 2025.

Japanese School Visit

We were pleased to host students from Takamatsu Kita High School, Japan, in Week 9. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for both our students and our guests to build connections and share cultural experiences, enriching the understanding and appreciation of each other’s backgrounds. Preparations are currently underway for an overseas excursion to Japan scheduled for 2027.

PB4L Rewards Day

On Tuesday 9 December, we celebrated our PB4L Rewards Day, recognising students for their consistent participation and exemplary behaviour through the accumulation of Gotchas. The points earned throughout the term were tallied, and students were rewarded with pizza and a selection of prizes, reflecting their individual levels of achievement.

Coastal Learning Community

We are proud to continue our strong partnership with the Coastal Learning Community (CLC) primary schools.  Our Senior Executive team has recently visited these schools to present awards sponsored by Kingscliff High School. We look forward to welcoming Kingscliff P&C, alongside our partner Primary P&C committees for a combined P&C meeting in early 2026.

Wet and Wild

On Thursday 11 December, 200 eligible students from Years 7 to 10 at Kingscliff High School enjoyed a rewarding day at Wet’n’Wild. This End of Year Rewards Day celebrated their consistent achievement, attendance, and positive behaviour throughout the year. Events like this provide valuable support in recognising and encouraging students’ ongoing commitment and efforts.

Student Assemblies and Evening Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to all as we have celebrated the achievements of our students. Yesterday’s assemblies acknowledged the hard work, consistency, improvement and dedication demonstrated across all areas of learning.  In the evening, we held a special award ceremony to honour the outstanding accomplishments of our high-achieving students from each year group.  We sincerely appreciate the parents who took the time to join us in recognising and celebrating the successes of our students and thank all the sponsors of our major awards.

HSC 2025 Results

We eagerly anticipate the release of the HSC 2025 results at the end of Term 4, confident that they will reflect the hard work and dedication of our students. Many have already achieved remarkable success, securing early entry into university, committing to tertiary education pathways, or embarking on careers in the workforce. These forthcoming results are expected to be another proud milestone, highlighting the achievements and potential of our graduating cohort.

Bell Times 2026

This term we trialled holding sport in the morning to explore whether a change in structure would better support student engagement, attendance and learning routines. At the end of the trial, both students and teachers were invited to provide feedback and vote on their preferred option. Based on the overwhelmingly clear feedback from both groups, sport will return to its traditional Wednesday afternoon timeslot from 2026 onwards.

Channel 7 Visits Kingscliff High to Celebrate a Living Legend

Last week, Channel 7 visited our school to interview one of our most treasured staff members, Alwyn Race.     https://bcove.video/4p8BMSZ   Alwyn may well be the longest-serving school employee in NSW!   His remarkable career began in 1954, when he started work as a cleaner at public schools in Murwillumbah, Tweed River and Tumbulgum.  Seventy years later, Alwyn continues to serve our community with the same good humour, efficiency and generosity that have defined his working life.     He is a dedicated groundsman at both Kingscliff High School and Tumbulgum Public School. This year he celebrated his 90th birthday and we are incredibly proud to acknowledge Alwyn’s extraordinary contribution and the positive impact he has made across generations of students, staff and families.   He attended the NSW Department of Education Service Recognition Dinner at NSW Parliament House in Sydney where he was honoured for his dedication to his profession presented by Mr Murat Dizdar, the Secretary for the NSW Department of Education.  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSFLopqEtm1/

School Holidays

Have a wonderful festive season and a safe and relaxing summer holiday. We look forward to welcoming all students back for the start of 2026 on Monday 2 February 2026.

At the end of the trial, both students and teachers were invited to provide feedback and vote on their preferred option. Based on the overwhelmingly clear feedback from both groups, sport will return to its traditional Wednesday afternoon timeslot from 2026 onwards.

“Truth doesn’t need your input to exist… gossip does.” When we choose truth, we choose integrity, safety and respect. Gossip grows only when we feed it, repeat it, or stay silent while it harms someone else.   In our schools, that choice can be the difference between someone feeling safe or feeling targeted. Truth stands on its own - but gossip relies on us to keep it alive. Choose to be the person who stops the cycle, not the one who fuels it. Let’s starve the things that hurt.. and strengthen the things that heal.   #stopthespread #truthwins #stymiecommunity #stymie #saysomething #studentsfirst #childsafeguarding #kindnessalways #forthekids #safelearningspaces #wegotyou #wehearyou #nohateheremate #cultureofcare

Sport

Australian Wanderers Hockey Team

Year 7 students Damon Bartlett and Max Bachmann toured with the Australian Wanderers Hockey Team and enjoyed an unforgettable experience in Fiji, competing against local sides and praising the incredible athleticism and skill of the Fijian players. Throughout the tour, the boys took part in exciting matches, received high-quality coaching from experienced staff, and explored the beautiful regions of Nadi and Suva. The trip not only strengthened their hockey skills but also provided an enriching cultural experience, helping them build international friendships and memories they will treasure.
