Prep School Newsletter

Friday 5 December 2025

It is our favourite time of year! As Chaplain Katie reminded us in assembly this morning, it is a time for hope, peace, love and joy and our Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils delivered a delightful Nativity this afternoon, full of the very same. Thank you to all our parents for joining us for this year’s performance of the Christmas story - we hope you enjoyed watching your little ones on stage as much as we did. Key Stage 2 also had a fantastic time on their trip to London to see Matilda The Musical – what a treat and what an exciting time for our KC Prep pupils.

As we look ahead, a reminder that next week is our final week of term: there will be no clubs, activities, or late bus, and we have an early collection on Friday 12 December. Please see the diary section for full details.

KCPPA Elfridges Shopping Day 2025

A huge thank you to the KCPPA for once again hosting Elfridges Shopping for the Prep School. Christmas gifts are now well and truly sorted, and we hope you enjoy your carefully selected presents – though we suspect that, in some cases, the shopping may have been even more exciting for the buyer than the receiver! Thank you for bringing so much festive fun to our community.

Celebrating Our Privilege Stars

Mrs Hall hosted her termly Privilege Lunch on Thursday, celebrating the children who had earned five Privilege Cards for excellent manners. They enjoyed a delicious feast of burgers, chips, beans, onion rings and corn, finished off with an ice-cream sundae – what a treat! The children were an absolute delight, and a wonderful lunchtime was had by all.

What happened in School this week?

Matilda The Musical

On Wednesday, Key Stage 2 had a wonderful time at The Cambridge Theatre, watching a fantastic performance of ‘Matilda’.   We enjoyed chatting with our friends and having our lunches on the coach journey to London. When we entered the theatre, we were transfixed by the magical set and waited in anticipation for the show to commence. What a show it was! We all so enjoyed it and marvelled at the performances of everyone involved. A super pre-Christmas treat for us all.

"Knock Knock" The Nativity

Today we enjoyed one of our favourite events of the year: Knock Knock! The Nativity. Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children delighted the audience with catchy songs, lively rhymes, and a few well-timed knock, knock jokes. Well done to all the children and staff for a wonderful performance! Mrs Lawson-Wood

Forest Explorers - Caterpillars

There’s been Christmas magic in the air this week, with plenty of festive giggles along the way. Santa’s Workshop was a huge hit as we wrapped ‘presents’ and wrote gift tags, ready for Santa to spread some seasonal cheer. We also put our problem-solving skills to the test to rescue penguins trapped in blocks of ice. Using warm water and droppers, we watched cracks appear as the ice slowly melted and the penguins emerged. There were smiles all around when every last one was finally freed!

Reception

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Reception this week! Our Christmas tree arrived and the children had fun decorating the tree and the classroom. The children made the longest paper chain to decorate the classroom with! Our role play area changed from a Toy Shop into Santa’s Workshop and the children have been working very hard wrapping presents for Santa. On top of all that we have been busy rehearsing for our Knock Knock, The Nativity performance today!

Nativity magic and a bit of forest fun!

The children worked beautifully together to create a huge hedgehog home, carefully gathering leaves and natural materials. Once it was finished, they decided the best part would be testing it out – and in they all jumped! A wonderful mix of teamwork, imagination and pure joy.

On the morning of our Nativity, Reception, Year 1 and 2 joined together to enjoy a morning of Christmas crafts! From cards, to collage, to painting (with some glitter thrown in for good measure) it has left us all feeling suitably festive. The children worked really well in their mixed groups and it was lovely to have such a relaxed morning before our performance.

Year 3

In Art, Year 3 have been exploring the vibrant traditions of Indian elephant festivals. We learned about the festival’s rich cultural significance and enjoyed studying the intricate patterns and vivid colours used to decorate the elephants. After completing our research, the children designed their own symmetrical patterns, embellishing them with vibrant inks and sparkling jewels to create stunning, festive artwork.

Year 4

What a gloriumptious week it has been! The children have been working their socks off, scribbling and thinking so hard during assessments that you could almost see smoke curling out of their ears. In between all that brain-busting brilliance, they’ve been rehearsing for the Christmas show with such sparkle and gusto that even the stage lights might get jealous. And then—oh, the excitement!—a trip to London to see Matilda the Musical, which was so full of magic and mischief it made everyone’s eyes twinkle like a jar of fireflies. Back in science, things got wonderfully whoopsy-whiffling as we recreated the digestive system: bananas squished and squashed, slithered down an oesophagus made of tights, plopped into a stomach bag with a splash of vinegar, and then—snip!—out they went through a sieve, wriggling along like a cheeky worm until they reached the large intestine and, well… let’s just say the grand finale was gloriously yucky! Next week promises even more fizz and fun as we take to the stage for our Christmas show. Watch out—it’s going to be whoopsey-splendiferous!

Year 5

Theatre has been the word of the week. Firstly, Year 5 were thrilled to be part of the class groups that went to the West End to watch the simply fantastic production of Matilda. They were in awe of the set and couldn't stop talking about the spectacular acting and dancing that filled their afternoon. As staff, we were extremely proud of the children's behaviour. Next, KS2 were invited to watch a special performance of the Early Years and Key Stage One Christmas show. Joy filled the school's theatre and the applause nearly blew the roof off! Lastly, alongside assessments and lessons, Year 5 have also started rehearsals for their own Christmas production. Their poems and songs are sure to impress you next week.

Year 6

Year 6 have had a wonderfully busy week filled with rehearsals, and the excitement has certainly been building for the KS2 Christmas Production on Tuesday night. The children have thoroughly enjoyed bringing their performance to life, showing great teamwork, enthusiasm, and plenty of laughter along the way and we cannot wait for you to see this! Off the stage, Year 6 have also been working diligently to complete their learning tasks before the much-anticipated Christmas holiday. Their focus and commitment have been impressive, and they are finishing the term on a real high.

Sport News

The U10 team travelled to Stamford School in Lincolnshire to compete in the IAPS National Gymnastics Championships, showcasing fantastic skill and determination. Harriet was crowned the IAPS U10 National Champion, successfully defending the title she won last year, and was also awarded the highest score for her floor routine. The wider team of Hanna, Sasha and Margot performed brilliantly too, placing 4th overall and 3rd in the group sequence. A wonderful achievement for everyone involved!
