Week 2

English - In English this week, we have been preparing to write a report about the Stone Age, linking our work to our history learning. We began by exploring an example of a non-fiction report and identifying its key features, such as subheadings, factual language, and organised paragraphs. After that, we worked in groups to research different subheadings and gather key facts about life in the Stone Age. Next week, we will use the facts we collected to write clear, detailed paragraphs. By the end, we hope to combine our ideas to create a full class report all about the Stone Age. We are excited to share our finished work soon!

Library - Every two weeks, our class enjoys an hour in the school library. This time allows the children to relax, explore different genres, and read books of their own choosing in a calm and comfortable space. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to develop their love of reading and discover new stories. We finish each library session by coming together to share a short book as a class, which is always a lovely way to end the hour. Afterwards, we work together to tidy the library so it’s ready for the next group of readers. The children look forward to these visits and are becoming enthusiastic and independent readers.

P.E - In P.E. this week, Year 3 have been learning the skills of cricket. We began with a fun warm-up where we practised our catching using bean bags and cones — including the tricky challenge of holding the cone on our heads and trying to catch the bean bag as it dropped! After that, we worked on our throwing skills by aiming cricket balls at the stumps, focusing on accuracy and control. Everyone showed fantastic effort and enthusiasm throughout the session. Super effort from Year 3!

P.S.H.E - In PSHE, we have been learning all about citizenship. Our lessons have explored a range of important themes, including charities, children’s rights, the reasons we have rules, and the different groups that support our local community. The children have really enjoyed discussing these ideas and thinking about what it means to be an active and responsible citizen. They were especially inspired by our work on charities, and as a class we have decided that we would like to raise money for a charity of our own choice! We are excited to start planning how we can make a positive difference together.

Assembly - We had our first class assembly of the school year this week! We shared with the rest of the school and our parents what we have been learning about. The children spoke clear and confidently - well done year 3!
