Colmore Junior School autumn term: week: 6

Highlights of the week

The week started with our Harvest Assembly where the children had the traditional story, ‘Stone Soup’ which was all about the benefits of everyone sharing what they have with one another. All of your wonderful donations of food were on display at the front of the hall. The children could see what great collective effort had been made by the Colmore community. I know that the food bank will be really appreciative.

Parking

Please can everyone drive and park with consideration and care for others, earlier in the week we had an incident where a parent fell off her bike because of careless and irresponsible driving by another parent. Her child was strapped in a seat at the back of the bike. The police and a representative of the council have been contacted about this.

On Wednesday some of our children had the opportunity to take part in a football event at Wheelers Lane.

Year 6 had a really exiting trip to the butterfly farm in Stratford Upon Avon to reinforce science work on evolution and life cycles. Year 6 also visited the Mad Museum in the same trip as a stimulus for their forthcoming coming work on cams in design technology.

The Girls football team will be playing in a six a side completion this afternoon after school and we wish them all the very best.

Thank you again for your kind harvest donations and have a lovely weekend

Can 5H protect the Crown Jewels? Yes, they can! They worked in groups to set up circuits that would be triggered in the event of a burglary!

Year 6 had a visit to the Butterfly Farm in Stratford and the MAD museum as part of their work in design and technology on CAMs and automata.
Marble run

Watch this space to see how they are inspired with their own designs.

On Monday a group of Year 5 girls attended a rugby festival to celebrate the recent win of the English Roses at the Rugby Union World Cup.

On Tuesday we had a visit from the author Christopher Edge. He shared his new book, Hide and Seek with the children in years 4-6 and then did a book signing after school. Look out for copies of the book in our class libraries!
In Year 5 this week, children have been carrying out their own research in to children’s poets to then present the information and a favourite poem to the rest of the class. They had to think carefully about how to present to an audience and how best to share the poems.
We were so grateful for all of the donations provided for our Harvest Assembly this week. Kings Heath Food bank were blown away by the amount provided and this will feed lots of local families for several weeks.

In RE this week 4RK made some divas to celebrate the festival of lights for Diwali. They found out all about the story of Rama and Sita.

3C have turned in to dentist’s this week and made their own dentures! They have named the different types of teeth and talked about the different functions too.
4R have completed their own fables today. They were too good not to share! Such wonderful stories and so beautifully illustrated
