We are nearly at the end of the summer term and what a busy term it has term it has been!
Year 4 have been to St Aubin's Fort, Year 5 to Crabbe and Year 6 to Osmington Bay in the UK. All the children had a fantastic experience and made memories to last. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff who accompanied the children on their trips, especially Mr Job who attended all 3! Without the staff's commitment these trips would not be possible.
Congratulations to Mrs McPhee who has passed the 'Accredited Professional Certificate in Mediation and Mediation Skills'. Diego & Skye accompanied Mrs McPhee at The Resolution Centre Graduation Ceremony, both children were a credit to the school.
Congratulations also to the Year 5 boys 75m relay team who took home GOLD at the Island Athletics Championships! Year 5 enjoyed 4 weeks of surfing at St Ouens Bay, with the Splash Surf Centre, have also took part in 'Swim Safe' at Harve des Pas, 'Safety in Action' at Highlands and represented the school at Jersey Sings (Music in Action).
Year 1 have been on a trip to the Maritime Museum and recently had a morning at the beach. Year 4 had a hands on experience exploring at the farm and getting to meet the animals. Some of our Year 3 pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school at the Caesarean Tennis Club, one group ended the day with a bronze medal! Well done to all.
We have also had Sports Day for Key Stage 2 at FB Fields in June and recently Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at School. All the children showed great sportsmanship.
We are proud to have been recognised as a Voice 21 Oracy Centre of Excellence. This certifies and celebrates that we as a school are leading the way in providing a high-quality education for students.
A huge congratulations to Jake Hutchings who won the Audience Choice Award at this year's Speak Up, Speak Out Jersey, a first for Plat Douet School. Speak Up and Speak Out is a public speaking competition for Year 6 pupils across Jersey. It celebrates confident communication and the power of young voices. Jake's moving speech was all about his sister Izzy, who sadly passed 6 years ago. We are proud to have taught both Jake and Izzy at Plat Douet School.
Recently, we have just been treated to a Dance Performance for Years 1 to 6 and what a performance it was. The children were amazing and not daunted by an over filled hall of parents and carers. Year 5 also did a flash mob dance outside the school at the end of the day last Friday. A big thank you to Kam, our Dance and Drama Coach, for organising a great performance.
A huge well done to our Nursery who won the Belles Fleurs Shield in this year's RJA&HS Garden Competition, they took 1st place in the Nursery category. Thank you to the staff and children for putting on such a great display
On Wednesday we were awarded Gold Status in the EAL Quality Mark, Plat Douet School being the first school in Jersey to receive this award. Our multilingual and multicultural journey has involved the enthusiasm and dedication of our whole school community.
It is also the time of the year when we say farewell to pupils and colleagues. We have our Year 6 leavers assembly tomorrow so please get your tissues ready.
We will also be saying farewell to some of our members of staff: Mr Job, Miss Wilson, Miss Evans and Miss Le Gresley. We would like to thank them for all their hard work and commitment to the Plat Douet School community and wish them every success in their new ventures. Miss Strzelecki is also leaving at the end of the term to have her baby, we look forward to meeting the new addition to her family in due course.
There are two other members of staff who are also leaving Plat Douet School - but they are not just leaving but retiring - Miss McClemens and Mrs Colter . Both ladies have been a great asset to the school and we are going to miss them. Mrs Colter has been working for the Government of Jersey for 29 years and has been with Plat Douet for 9 years. Miss McClemens has been working for the Government of Jersey for 28 years and has been at Plat Douet for 8 years. We would like to wish them both a long and happy retirement.
We also have new members of staff who are joining us and some that have already started! We would like to give a warm Plat Douet welcome to Miss Jandron (currently teaching Y2C), Miss Du Feu, Miss Rees and Miss Lancaster-Adlam who have recently joined us as Teaching Assistants. Reception children may know Miss Du Feu already as she accompanies the children on their swimming lessons with Le Mourier Swim School.
When we return in September, we would also like to give a warm Plat Douet welcome to Mrs Cantrell and Mrs Mitchell who are the new SENDCos. Miss Roberts, Miss Troy and Miss Allan are joining as class teachers and Miss Harper, Miss Hacquoil, Miss Gilmour., Miss Van-Meir Pires and Miss De Costa.
