Dear Families, As we close the final chapter of this school year, I find myself pausing to reflect on just how fast the year went — and how far your students have come. From the first days in August to these last bright weeks of May, we have watched your children grow not just academically, but as curious thinkers, kind classmates, and confident young people. It has been a genuinely wonderful year. To our 8th graders: I wish all of you the best of luck as you move onto high school. High school is a big step, and you ready for it. We are proud of who you have become and excited to watch what you'll do from here! As summer begins, we encourage all students to keep that spark alive — even just 20 minutes of reading a day can make a world of difference come fall. Visit the library, revisit an old favorite, or find a new series to get lost in. Learning doesn't need a classroom but it takes intentional effort to keep those skills sharp! There are resources linked below in the newsletter and more will be sent out this week. Thank you for sharing your children with us this year. Your support, trust, and partnership mean everything. It has been a privilege and a joy to educate them this year! Wishing you a restful, joyful summer ahead. --Mr. MacIntosh
Around MSE Last Week:
Metro Beach Field Trip:
Our annual school-wide field trip to Lake St. Clair Metropark will take place on Tuesday June 2. Students will be bussed from MSE to the park and then bussed back to MSE around 2:00 and then home from MSE for dismissal from parent pickup or bus at 3:04 PM. No student can leave the park with a parent and must come back to MSE -- no exceptions. Parents should not pick up students early that day as they will be getting their yearbooks and other activities.
8th Grade Promotion and Awards Ceremony
The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony is quickly approaching. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday June 3 from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the MSE Gymnasium.
- 8:00 am Start of the school day
- 8:30 am Student Practice
- 9:10 am Doors Open for Parents
- 9:30 am Promotion Ceremony Starts
- 11:00 am The end of the Ceremony
8th grade students should arrive at school at the start of the school day on Wednesday June 3 (whether by bus or parent drop off). They will participate in a practice and promotion walkthrough during 1st hour. We are encouraging students to wear business casual or formal attire to the promotion ceremony. Traditionally students wear shirts with collars, slacks, skirts and dresses. This is a memorable milestone for our students and parents, and an event filled with pomp and circumstance. Please note that the ceremony will end around 11:00 AM and the school day will ends at 11:19 AM. Parents and 8th grade students are welcome to linger and take pictures inside and outside, no siblings of 8th graders will be allowed to be signed out early. Parents who take pictures outside should be mindful of traffic congestion as dismissal of 6th and 7th grade students happens at 11:19.
SUMMER LEARNING
As we head into summer, with not returning until August 31 (almost 3 months!!) we want to encourage families to stay on top of learning and enrich your students mind throughout the summer by making learning and reading part of the summer routine. Even something as simple as 15-20 minutes a day of learning can go a long way to setting kids up for success in the fall. Limit the screen time and get them reading!! Use summer as an opportunity for growth and to build skills in areas they struggle in. Below are some resources to help you in that pursuit. Access to your local library for information is below based on where you live:
Khan Academy offers learning and support on a variety of subjects and it is completely FREE to students. (just x out of the donation box when you visit the page). Sign your child up and work with them on subjects they may want to improve on this summer including Math and Reading!!
