Dear Families, Friends, Students and Staff.
Well that's a wrap! We have made it - and hand over your children to you for the Christmas break. Thank you to staff for their unwavering commitment to their most important job, and thank you to, parents and carers, for your continuing support of Canbury School and our ethos.
Please enjoy the Christmas holiday. As I said in assembly today, do take time out to rest and relax over the break, ready for an energetic return to school in the New Year.
We all hope you have a happy, peaceful and festive break. Students return to school on Tuesday 7th January, for a 8.10am start. If you need to contact Canbury over a safeguarding issue during the break, contact: safeguarding@canburyschool.co.uk Please note, this is for safeguarding only. Otherwise staff will not be responding to their emails over the holiday.
Best festive wishes

Christmas lunches were a brilliant start to our last week. Drum roll for Nico!
We had a wide array of Christmas-themed lunch boxes on Monday, which made us laugh and in a few cases, gasp, in admiration at some of the more ingenious presentations. There was a fair sprinkling of Christmas crackers, some fairy lights, an exquisitely gift-wrapped lunch box, and lots - we mean lots - of pigs in blankets! In the event huge congrats to Nico who came first, with Oliver (whose entire lunch was encased in a giant cracker), hot on his heels a worthy runner up.
Ice kings and queens of Hampton Court.
We don't need to say much about the whole school trip to Hampton Court ice skating on Tuesday. Just look at these happy faces.
Meanwhile the non skaters stayed back at base having their own yuletide fun. Whether making Christmas paper chains, decorating biscuits, making Christmas cards or watching 'Nativity!' a lovely time was had by all.
Ten pin bowling bonanza.
Tolworth Broadway didn't know what had hit it Wednesday afternoon when KS4/5 hit Hollywood Bowl for an inter-house tenpin bowling competition. There were some smooth moves demonstrated....turkey anyone? (That's three strikes in a row).
More festive scenes to gladden the heart.
Here's Kit (left) and Eliot hard at work finishing off their festive paintings. We knew we needed to put one of the top of the Newsletter, but we couldn't decide. So we put both names in a hat and one was drawn out. Eliot's is there at the top of the Newsletter, with Kit's photographed below. Well done to you both. Here they are hard at their creative work.
The Christmas chain fairy.
Singing with all our might for our local neighbours - well done Year 7.
We returned to Sherwood Grange Residential Care Home yesterday, this time to sing some carols and Christmas songs to the residents. We were once again given a very warm welcome from residents and staff, who seemed to enjoy our very best yuletide warblings. Our students were exemplary in their behaviour and attitude to the whole event. After they had performed, they were treated to light refreshments in the cafe and played in the visitors' wendy house (are they even called that anymore?).
On our way back to school, one of our students wondered aloud how much it might cost to live at Sherwood Grange. We fear the fees may have gone up a fair bit by the time they're ready to move in.......
Business as usual (sort of).
Whilst students had a riotous morning today, some staff were working up to the last minute, whether putting out benches for assembly, sweeping up party streamers or dealing with the never-ending paperwork around school life. Mrs Rich was forbidden from cracking open that bottle of bubbly on her desk.......
Assembly was busy!
We celebrated academic achievement, sporting prowess, being kind to each other and everything in between. Lysander finally for his Campbell House Captain badge, Mrs Rich bade farewell and thank you to Mr Brinkmanis and Miss Weyman. Teachers gamely donned their Christmas hats made for them by their tutor groups - the winning hat was a chimney, no prizes for working out who that was! But then as the bell went at 12 noon there was a stampede for the door. By 12.10pm it was like the Mary Celeste.
