Scripture

Mark 1:29-34a NIV 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.

What does Jesus do throughout the verses? How might these Bible verses connect to the highs and lows you shared? How does Jesus heal our big hurts?
Engage

Healing is one of the very first things Jesus does in Mark’s Gospel. We hear stories of Jesus healing those with physical and spiritual hurts. This is quite simply what Jesus does, and a large part of who he is. He shows us his power as he extends God’s good gifts to include everyone, no matter what their situation. God is everywhere—always on the move—to heal our hurts inside and out. When Jesus died and rose, He healed the world from all its pain forever. Jesus’ healing power is all around us. Engage in one of the following activities to celebrate the tools and people in the world He works through to bring healing.

  • Make a card for someone who you know who is sick or hurting.
  • Make a big bandaid like in the opening video. When you hear of someone who is sick write their name on a small bandaid and stick it on the big bandaid as a reminder to pray for them.
Pray + Bless

Pray: Our Great Physician, Thank you for the gift of healing. Thank you for taking away the hurts of the world through your death and resurrection. Help us to share your healing power with the world. Amen.

Make the sign of the cross on the forehead of each person in your family and say, "May the Great Physician keep you always in His care."
