After trading off regular season titles in each of the last two years, Greenville University and Webster University find themselves at the top of the 2025 SLIAC Women's Soccer preseason poll.
Last year Greenville won its second tournament title in three years, becoming the first program to win both the tournament and regular season titles in the same year since 2021. Greenville University received 62 points and six first-place votes in the poll voting and are the preseason favorites. The Panthers went undefeated in conference play last year, going 7-0-1. Head Coach Jeff Wardlaw returns five starters but has a strong group of seniors to lean on. Ashlie Johnston Cabral is the reigning SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year after recording 11 goals and 4 assists. Fellow seniors Alexis Romeo, Allyson Schulz, and Kellen Price were also All-Conference performers last fall as was junior Angie Stedman. Transfers Kylie Petroski and Maddie Cook will be among the newcomers looking to fill the six open starting spots on the field.
With 59 points, and three first-place nods, Webster University was chosen to finish second in the league. The Gorloks are coached by Luigi Scire and return seven starters from a squad that went 12-2-4 last season. They return a trio of All-Conference players in Riley Cappozzo, Jasmine Hubbard, and Mia Smith. Cappozzo, a midfielder, tallied 1 goal and 4 assists while being named Third Team All-Conference. Hubbard earned First Team honors as a defender while Smith, a midfielder, picked up Newcomer of the Year after recording 6 goals and 4 assists. Junior Malaya Blakely and senior Payton Montana will pair at the top of the attack while Sienna Inouye joins the back line.
Spalding University was picked third in the poll with 49 points after going 11-5-3 overall last season. Head Coach Jordan Vejar brings back eight starters including the SLIAC's leading scorer Emma Livingston. The senior put up 13 goals and 3 assists to pace the league and earn First Team All-Conference honors. Elle Trentman is a three-year starter and was named Third Team All-Conference and is joined on defense by Claira Andrews and Trinity Bauwens, forming one of the most experienced groups in the league. Karolyn Lighthall and Melaney Frick will once again play key roles while Taylor Zebarth continues to progress at her defensive position. Emme Kim, a transfer, will push for minutes.
Tallying 43 points was Westminster College, putting them fourth on the poll. The Blue Jays are coached by Courtney Howe and return eight starters from a team that was 7-8-3 overall. Howe was pleased with her team's performance in the spring and looks forward to blending her returners and transfers to have a strong season. Claire Sanders and Faith Coates head up the list of returners after putting together All-Conference seasons last fall. Reagan Chigas, Shea Nortrup, Kaitlyn Halamicek, Allie Auer, and Bella Carter fill out the rest of the returners. Top newcomers to keep an eye on are Addi Curtis, Fiona Medlock, Emma Fontenot, and Maddie Clubb.
Lyon College sits fifth in the poll with 32 points. The Scots went 4-9-2 overall last season under head coach Marc Neddo. He returns nine starters including All-Conference midfielder Katelyn Balderas. The junior posted 4 goals last fall, two of which were game-winners. Also back for the Scots are Zoe Papazoglou, Lauren Couture, and Jessica Steele. New faces that should play minutes are Hannah Higgins and Jasmine Goodrum.
Principia College was picked sixth with 30 points. The Panthers went 4-11 overall last fall with head coach Samuel Thomas. They return seven starters including Christin Walls, Makayla Kurtz, and Dachelle Carter. Carter was a Third Team All-Conference forward after leading the team with six goals while Walls recorded 68 saves in her eight starts in net.
MUW places seventh in the voting, accumulating 26 points. The Owls are coached by Anna Ramos and went 4-12-2 overall in their first season under her direction. MUW brings back four starters: Kimi Norway, Abby Warchus, Avery Bartlett, and Anna McKee. Norway was a Third Team All-Conference selection after tying for the team lead with 4 goals. Coach Ramos is excited about newcomers Emma Hall, Macie Trotter, and Christi Carol Smith.
Eureka College placed eight in the voting, finishing with 14 points. The Red Devils finished 2-12-1 overall last season with head coach Reese Scragg bringing back nine starters including Brianna Murphy who tied for the team lead with 2 goals.
Blackburn College totaled 9 points from league coaches in the preseason poll voting. Head Coach Andy Arterburn has four starters returning from last year's squad: Kara Mantia, Kayla Mantia, Janelle Naumann, and Theresa Smith. He also welcomes back Stefania Scardigno, who returns fully healthy. There are several newcomers that will play big minutes for the Beavers and include: Cristina Zelaya, Giselle Moya, Amelia Brown, Stephanie Padron, Madelis Garcia, Paige Schmelzer, Grace Vidmar, Emma Zaidle, Allison Nebelsick, and Molli Bohannon.
