Congratulations to Benji for being named our Aussie of the Month. Benji has been consistently demonstrating the core values of respect, mate ship and a fair go, setting a wonderful example to peers through his kindness and community spirit.

A big congratulations to Jack B who was awarded Junior Boy Age Champion at the VoSS Swimming Carnival earlier this term. A well-earned achievement.

Headlands district swimming championships

Congratulations to the swimmers who qualified to represent Headlands District at the Swimming Championships held at Ballina Swimming Pool last week. All Newrybar students placed in the top 25 in their races - an accomplishment you should all be proud of.

  • Bella was the only 8 year old to compete in the girls open 100m freestyle and finished 25th competing against girls aged 8 - 12! She also came 11th in 8 year girls 50m freestyle and 25th in 8-10 years girls backstroke.
  • Charlotte - 5th girls 12-13 years 50m backstroke, 7th girls 11-13 years individual medley, 13th 12 year girls 50m freestyle, 17th girls open 100m freestyle, 13th 12-13 years girls 50m butterfly, 19th girls 12-13 years 50m backstroke.
  • Jack P - 9th 12-13 years boys 50m backstroke, 16th 12 year boys 50m freestyle, 16th boys open 100m freestyle.
  • Nate - 19th 10 year boys 50m freestyle, 21st 8-10 years boys 50m backstroke.

harmony day

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It's about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students are invited to wear orange to show their support on Thursday, 19th March. Please ensure you are sun safe, that is no singlets or midriff tops and wear enclosed shoes.

parent teacher interviews

Parent/Teacher meetings for English and Maths will be held on Wednesday, 25 March. Bookings can be made on School Bytes. Please indicate if your meeting is to be face to face or by phone. If your meeting is to be by phone, please provide your preferred number. Bookings will open on Monday, 23 February and close on Friday, 13 March. Parents are asked to only book an interview with your child's allocated English and Maths teacher. (See the class groups below.) Please do not book with other teachers. The school is able to change these if a mistake is made. Each interview has a 15-minute timeslot. Be careful not to book the same time for two different teachers. There are two 5/6 maths classes - please check with your child who their maths teacher is. Teachers:

  • K/1 English and 5/6 Maths - Mrs Ruskin
  • 5/6 Maths - Ms Albans
  • 2/3/4 English and K/1 Maths - Mrs Cartwright
  • 5/6 English and 2/3 Maths - Miss Thuys

kindergarten information sessions for 2027 students

Do you have a neighbour, friend or family member interested in Kindergarten at Newrybar Public School in 2027? Information sessions will be held on Thursday, 19 March at 12noon and 5:15pm for parents considering placing an application to enrol at Newrybar Public School for Kindergarten 2027. At these meetings, the enrolment process, in zone and out of zone enrolments, orientation activities, how classes at Newrybar are organised, curriculum, starting school for your child, uniforms and other topics will be discussed. If you know someone, please tell them to contact by email newrybar-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or phone 66871343 to register their interest.

p & c welcome barbecue

The P & C are holding a welcome BBQ at Piccabeen Park, Bangalow on Sunday, 15th March at 3pm. All parents and students are welcome to attend! The P&C will provide a sausage sizzle, and we’d love it if families could bring a plate to share — salads, nibbles, sweet treats… anything goes! Hot tip: Bring swimmers and/or a change of clothes — the kids nearly always end up in the creek! Rachael will be sending out an RSVP poll via the parent-run Newry Kids WhatsApp group. If you’re not on the WhatsApp group yet, please text Rachael on 0416 367 727 and she’ll add you in.

EASTER HAT PARADE AND ASSEMBLY

Our Term 1 assembly will be held on Thursday , 2nd April following our annual Easter Hat Parade. Students are asked to create their own Easter hat at home using found, borrowed and recycled materials to wear in the parade. All parents and families are invited to attend, and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy with their family after the assembly. Students are welcome to wear mufti dress. Please ensure you are sun safe, that is no singlets or midriff tops and wear enclosed shoes.

soccer gala day

Newrybar entered two teams to play in the Newcastle Permanent Primary School Soccer Gala Day held at Lennox Head Football Club on Tuesday. All students played with such determination and high spirits in what was a sunny day. Great teamwork and sportsmanship was the theme of the day, with all students demonstrating resilience with the rapid changes to rules on the day and close competition. Thank you to parents Emma, Sally and Leia for transporting and supporting the students.

teddy bears picnic

Last week the K-1 class enjoyed a picnic with their Teddy Bears. Our buddies joined us and we enjoyed sharing healthy treats, playing games and listening to stories with our teddies.

library

K-1 visited the library this week. We will be borrowing books every Friday. Please remember to pack a library bag for your child.

Kinder and Year 1 Anxiety Project Lesson

This week we learnt about our Lizard Thinking. Our amygdala helps to protect us from danger and prepares our body to think like a lizard. We might freeze, fight or run, just like a lizard.

K-1 enjoyed an afternoon of art and craft creating treehouses with Ms Albans.

Year 2/3/4 P.E.

Students were honing their catching and throwing skills through a variety of stations in this weeks P.E. Lessons.

k-1 english

Kindergarten have been learning the sounds P and T. We have been sorting pictures starting with these sounds and enjoying craft activities. The K-1 class also had lots of fun making pancakes and popcorn.

k-1 inquiry

Kindergarten and Year 1 have continued to learn about forces. We used our knowledge of push and pull to create our own putt putt and pinball machines.

5-6 maths

The senior class have been using known strategies to design a local fair. With a tight budget, they had to be careful designing their project and calculating costs.

2-4 maths

This week in Maths, Years 2/3/4 enjoyed a hands-on activity where they threw bean bags into targets. Students practiced collecting and recording data, preparing them for organising their results into tables and graphs.
