Senior Heroes: Achieving Excellence Meet nine Omaha Public Schools students from the Class of 2025 as they embark on their next chapter

From Pre-K to graduation, Omaha Public Schools prepares students for success in life no matter what the future holds.

As the Class of 2025 approaches its next phase, we celebrate their growth and achievements.

Tyson Terry

Tyson Terry proudly continued his family's legacy at North High. The four-time state wrestling champion challenged himself to become a better student and leader for classmates and teammates.

"If you need help in the classroom, help on the field, I'm always here, a person to talk to."
"It feels good to know you've got a good support system."

Ezechiel Mufungizi

Ezechiel Mufungizi knows growth doesn’t happen alone. At Bryan High, he actively sought support from staff who believed in him and encouraged his confidence. He also gives his all on the soccer field, practicing with passion and discipline every day.

"Omaha Public Schools gave me an opportunity I never expected."
"My goal is actually playing [soccer] for my country and also to play in the Premier League."

Saham Elamin

Saham Elamin has made her mark at Central High through hard work, determination and a strong sense of self. Known for looking out for her siblings and taking on challenges, she inspires other students to be themselves. With a bright future ahead, she’s ready to take the next step and keep making a difference.

"You get a lot of support and a lot of help from your teachers, from your counselors and even your friends. Other people that have experience, they will help you a lot."
"I have seven siblings. I take care of my siblings—the little ones, and also I help my mom because we are a big family."

Heh War Htoo

At Benson High, Heh War Htoo found confidence and connection through soccer, forming meaningful friendships and growing as a leader. She also enjoys exploring her creativity through cooking. Her quiet strength, dedication and heart have shaped a bright future ahead.

"I'm proud of myself a little bit. I started to talk more and more, and I like to ask questions more now."
"I started culinary arts sophomore year. I like to cook. I joined soccer, and I like it because I have more friends."

Alexis Cervantes-Mendoza

Alexis Cervantes-Mendoza has leaned on his talent and teachers to find his groove at South High. Through perseverance and a deep love for his craft, he's looking ahead to graduation and reflecting on those who shaped his journey.

"It's something you can actually use in your future and build into a career. That's what I really like about the fine arts here."
"I want to become an orthodontist. My sister recently got braces, and realized there wasn't any Spanish-speaking orthodontist or dentist there. I can give the Hispanic community the comfort and reliability of someone who came from the same place."

Manay Kaw Shee Moo

At Northwest High, Manay Kaw Shee Moo is leaving his mark with strength and kindness. As a student leader and role model, he’s shown what it means to uplift others while staying true to yourself. Whether supporting classmates or preparing for his future in engineering, Manay leads with compassion and purpose.

"Without Omaha Public Schools, I would not be who I am today, because Omaha Public Schools has provided a fundamental place where people can discover who they truly are and what they are good at."
"Being close with family is one of the big parts of my life and our culture in general. We have a Karen community here. We work together and help each other grow."

Sophia Bouman

Sophia Bouman is dedicated to uplifting others through her involvement in Educators Rising, Color Guard, Orchestra, Senior Senate and more. The Burke High senior leads with compassion, always putting others first.

"I just want to give back and use my gifts and my strengths to leave an impact on my community as well."
"Your formative years are when you’re young; those are when some of the people have had the most profound impacts on me. So, if I can be an encouragement to someone and a support to someone in that age too, then I definitely want to do that."

Gabe Mathisen

Gabe Mathisen knows true leadership means putting others first. With kindness, meaningful connections and a heart full of gratitude, he’s making a lasting impact at Westview High.

"I know I can give so much. That's a huge thing for me."
"During middle school and elementary school, I didn't like being involved as much, but the teachers here have shown me that being involved is a good thing. Now, I'm so excited to go to college and do all these clubs and stuff."

Giselle Sanchez Morales

From learning English as a second language to becoming an interpreter at Buena Vista High, Giselle Sanchez is now pursuing her dream of becoming an educator.

“Ever since I set foot in the classroom, I’m just like ‘Yes, this is where I belong, this is where I see my future.’”
"Every single detail has been wonderful, and it couldn't have been any better than what I've experienced here at Omaha Public Schools."

Congratulations to our Class of 2025. You make us #OPSProud!
