Two Centennial Students Earn Scholarships to Attend Design Thinkers Vancouver

DesignThinkers, Canada's largest graphic design conference, celebrated its 25th year in Vancouver. The Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD), Canada's largest professional association for graphic design professionals, organized the conference and invited Student RGDs, Junior Affiliates, and Provisional RGDs to submit a short video for a chance to win tickets to attend.

Of the submissions, only ten students were awarded a scholarship, and among the chosen were Centennial's very own Daniela Rojas, a Graphic Design program grad, and Jennifer Sutherland, who's going into her third year of the program.

"I'm very grateful to the RGD and my sponsor, Pendo, for allowing me to attend DesignThinkers Vancouver on a scholarship. Going to Vancouver is an opportunity I otherwise would not be able to access while in school," Jennifer shares.

"The conference was great. I'm co-chairing the RGD student committee next school year, and I got to meet a few of the current chairs and one of my co-chairs in person. We had time to socialize and get excited about our roles for the upcoming school year, which was especially nice. I also made a friend from Centennial College through DesignThinkers 2023 (in Toronto); she also received a scholarship, so we met up in Vancouver and got to hang out for the conference, which was a highlight! And, of course, the speakers, workshops and networking events were all fantastic. I learned a lot, I got to laugh at a bunch of jokes that only other designers would care about, and I felt connected with my community," she continues.
