Marisa Wilson ADVERTISING UNDERGRAD AT UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA

About me

Hello! I’m a junior at the University of South Carolina, majoring in Advertising with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I’m passionate about creating innovative campaigns and bringing fresh ideas to life. Currently, I serve as the Director of the Panhellenic Wellness Committee, where I lead initiatives to promote mental and physical health within our community. Recently, I participated in the CreateAthon, a 24-hour event where I collaborated with a team to develop advertising and marketing strategies for a nonprofit organization in Columbia.

After transferring from the College of Charleston following my freshman year, I found my place as President of Tau Sigma, a national honor society dedicated to transfer students. My journey has been driven by a desire to build meaningful connections and make a lasting impact in my community.

Originally from New Jersey, I’m a beach lover and water enthusiast who enjoys wakeboarding, skiing, and trying new foods. When I’m not outdoors, you can find me on the mat as a sculpt and flow yoga fanatic or spending time with my church community. I bring creativity, leadership, and a love of collaboration to everything I do, and I’m excited to continue growing as a storyteller in the world of advertising.

Colman's Mustard Print Ad

For our first assignment in JOUR 317: Toolkit for Brand Communication: Creative Execution, we were tasked with creating six print ads for Colman’s Mustard using Adobe Photoshop. The project challenged us to develop visually compelling designs that showcased the brand’s bold flavor and strong heritage while exploring specific styles: Long Copy, Illustration, Design with Type, No Text, Framing Design, and Black and White. This assignment emphasized creative execution and brand storytelling through diverse approaches.

Project 2 - Brochure and Outdoor

For this project, we created a campaign for Colman’s Mustard, emphasizing its bold flavor and unique ability to "pack a punch." Targeting upper-middle-class foodies aged 35-55, the campaign included a tri-fold brochure, bus stop ads, and billboards designed to showcase Colman’s as a versatile pantry staple that elevates meals. Competing with Grey Poupon and Sir Kensington, the designs embraced a masculine, strong tone, highlighting Colman’s exceptional taste and unique kick.

Project 3

For Project 3, we applied in-class demos to create a comprehensive advertising campaign, including social media ads, a radio ad, and a direct mail postcard. The social media component required five ads: one for TikTok (vertical), three for Facebook (vertical, horizontal, and square), and one for Instagram, all designed with engaging, thumb-stopping copy. The radio ad included both a properly formatted script and a recorded MP3 file. Lastly, we designed a front-and-back postcard for direct mail using a template from GotPrint.com. This project emphasized versatility in platforms and formats while maintaining cohesive, impactful messaging.

PROJECT 4

For Project 4, we were tasked with creating a multimedia advertising campaign for a brand of our choice, building on previous skills. The deliverables included a social media video ad produced with proper formatting and production quality (without AI), a TV commercial script following industry-standard formatting, a storyboard with three key images in the correct format, and an AI-generated TV mockup commercial. For the mockup, we documented the AI platform used to produce the final result. This project emphasized integrating creative concepts across various media while maintaining a professional standard of execution.
