A Message from the Headteacher

The end of our penultimate half term has arrived extremely quickly. Even though this half term was a shorter one due to the later timing of Easter, we have certainly packed a lot of activities in.

This week I must start with the Year Six trip to London. Thank you so much to all of the staff who gave up a lot of time to enable some lifelong memories to be made. Enjoy some of the highlights below. There are plenty of photos below, also.

I was delighted to hear from the staff that the children were absolutely terrific and were great ambassadors to our lovely school. Lots of people were extremely envious of this opportunity (they’ve told me!) Thank you to our incredibly supportive Governing Body for making this possible.

The busy week has included Sports Days. Thank you so much for your support. The afternoon at the Dorothy Hyman stadium was terrific and the children certainly gave their all. The younger children have held sports days in school. It has been lovely for these opportunities to return to Birkwood, by way of our magnificent facility. Thank you again to all of our staff for their hard work. Really well done to the children for their sterling efforts! We planned in the sports days slightly earlier than usual just in case the weather intervened and we needed to rearrange the date. Of course, the weather has been perfect; for once we could have trusted it! Please see the photos below.

I emailed a letter on behalf of one of our Year 1 superstars. He's taking part in the Race for Life fund raising initiative. It's hard to think of anybody who has not been touched by cancer in some way. If you could possibly support this magnificent charity, that would be wonderful.

This week, we have hosted some ex-pupils for their Work Experience. It is always brilliant to see how children have matured through their teenage years. One of the pupils was actually the last baby that my late Mum ever held so it really has been an absolute pleasure.

Many thanks to Paul from Primary School Enterprise. We have enjoyed 2 Days in Years 5 and 6. This is a brilliant project in the calendar, and I know that the children have really enjoyed sharpening their entrepreneurial skills. Please see the photos below.

In the sporting world, KS1 Rounders completes a busy half term of activities. I wish our team all the best and again thank Mr. Walton for leading this area.

Below there is some information on activities available during the holidays.

We are delighted to confirm our Year 6 transition day at Outwood Shafton is: CONFIRMED - Tuesday 1st July. A letter to come out tonight

I wish everybody a safe and happy half term. I am aware of some industrial action/ teacher strikes at Outwood Shafton. I can confirm this is local to them and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 3rd June.
