On the 26th October 2023, Sustainable Futures held its monthly online Seminar Series. In this iteration, guest speakers Professor Aoife Foley and Dr Robin Preece were each invited to give a presentation.
The event was hosted and chaired by Dr Andrew Welfle, Senior Research Fellow at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, who kicked off the online seminar by welcoming attendees and introduced the guest speakers.
Professor Aoife Foley was the first to present, with a talk titled 'Perspectives on Sustainability, Politics, Society and Finance within STEM'. Professor Foley is the Chair in Net Zero Infrastructure at The University of Manchester and their talk revolved around their role in the UKRI-funded national energy research centres and Hi-ACT.
A Q&A session followed Professor Foley's presentation which allowed attendees to ask questions to the speaker themselves.
Dr Robin Preece subsequently gave their talk on the new Supergen Energy Networks Impact Hub. Dr Preece is the deputy director of the Hub which will run for five years from October 2023. The Supergen Energy Networks Impact Hub brings together the vibrant and diverse energy networks community to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions and inter-dependencies of energy networks, and to deliver impactful change to help make energy networks a driving force for decarbonisation. Another Q&A session for Dr Preece's presentation also took place afterwards.
After an hour of introductions, presentations and discussion, the October edition of the Sustainable Futures Seminar Series was brought to a close by Dr Welfle.
