COMMUNITY MARKET PLACE DESIGNED BY ISABELLA JAYDE BAKER

DESIGN PROPOSAL

In response to the challenges of Auburn Avenue, Baker’s project introduces a community market space aimed at empowering small businesses and revitalizing the neighborhood. Drawing design inspiration from successful Southern market models, like the Municipal Market in Sweet Auburn and the Charleston Market, as well as Atlanta's dynamic craftsman culture as seen in the Dogwood Festival, the project is envisioned to be a hub of vibrant activity. The architectural form pays homage to the local heritage, incorporating the arch motif common in Queen Anne designs in the area. The design features an arched facade with an overhanging mass for sidewalk shading, complemented by an internal courtyard with an arcade that seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor experiences.
