Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week in school we celebrated lots of events – Remembrance Day, Anti-bullying week and Odd Sock Day and of course, Children in Need today! I would like to thank those children and parents who attended the Remembrance Service at the cenotaph at Hoyland on Sunday and laid the poppy reef on behalf of the school. I am incredibly proud of how our children represented the school – thank you! The children were also very respectful when we observed the two minute silence in school on Monday. Well done to them all.
On Friday 22nd November at 9:00am Miss Jobling will be holding an SEN Coffee Morning for parents in school. This is a great opportunity to come along and ask any questions, seek any advice and also to meet other parents of children with SEN. It is also a great chance to signpost you to other support and resources across Barnsley.
For those children from Foundation 2 up to Year 6 who have had consent given, the flu spray will be given in school on Thursday 22nd November.
Yes it is that time of year again already when we start playing Mariah Carey and thinking about all of our Christmas events in school! Christmas Dinner this year will be on Thursday 5th of December. We would ask that Christmas dinner is pre-booked on Parent Pay for all children who will be having it as soon as possible so that the kitchen know how many children to cater for as it is always a popular and busy dinner. Children can come in Christmas jumpers / outfits this day (non school uniform).
Christmas Jumper Day is on Thursday 12th December this year and West Meadows will be joining in the celebrations. Children can come dressed in a Christmas jumper / Christmas dress etc on this day along with non school uniform.
Year 6 will be going on their school trip to Crucial Crew next week. Please can parents ensure that they give permission and pay on Arbor as soon as possible to enable this trip to go ahead. This is a really important opportunity for the children to learn about keeping safe in the community.
Next week is Assessment Week in school. Children in Years 2-6 will be doing some assessments to look at what their next steps for learning are. We try to keep these tests as informal as possible and encourage children just to have a go, especially in the younger classes. Please ask the class teacher if you would like any further information.
Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
