Year 5 are out of this world!
Year 5 pupils enjoyed an exciting launch to their new 'Out of This World' topic with a visit to the National Space Centre in Leicester. Children especially enjoyed the rocket tower and the huge selection of interactive displays. The children were also lucky enough to enjoy a journey through the solar system in the St Patrick Moore planetarium. Watch out for our budding astronauts in the future!

Children in Need - Fri 15th November
The School Council have exciting plans for Children in Need day next Friday. We will let you know full details at the beginning of next week. Donations are very welcome but entirely voluntary and can be made online via the following page:
Year 4 Junction Takeover
We are delighted to let you know that our Year 4 children will be organising this year's Junction Takeover Festival. They will be planning and organising a program of activities and performances for the family friendly event next year. They will be using and developing lots of skills, including teamwork, communication and working to a budget. This week they had their first session with staff from Junction and started to think about the skills they will need.
Donations
Thank you to everyone who donated items during our Harvest Festival week. These will be collected by Help the Homelezz in two weeks time. This charity helps those in need in our local community. You can find out more about them and the work they do on their Facebook page.
If you would like to support them, they would be very grateful for the following items which you are welcome to bring in to school in the next two weeks and we will add them to the harvest donations.
- Biscuits
- Bottled water
- Instant hand warmers
- Baby wipes
- Cartons of UHT milk
The charity have expressed how they think the support from our school is wonderful, so thank you so much for your help.
Kids Club - spaces available
Kids Club have afternoon sessions available for after school care. Enquires can be made by picking a slip from the school office or emailing parkside.kidsclub@hotmail.co.uk
They are also delighted to let you know that they were awarded £1500 in the Tesco community grant scheme, so would like to thank everyone for voting for them with their blue tokens.
Vaping at school gates
We would like to remind you that our school is a non-smoking/vaping site. Please can we also ask that you are considerate of others when waiting near the school gates. These areas get very busy and we have had reports that many people are vaping, which is very unpleasant for children and families to have to walk through when arriving or leaving school.
We would appreciate it if parents and carers can think about the health of the school community and avoid vaping close to school. Please also communicate this to any older siblings or other relatives who may pick up.
Halloween Disco - Thank you!
We would like to say a big thank you to the Friends of Parkside PTA for their hard work in organising the Halloween Disco and making such a fun event for the children. We would also like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who gave up their time and stayed to help on the day, and everyone else who helped the event to take place.
Upcoming Year 6 Open Afternoons
Just a reminder that Year 6 open afternoons take place next week. Year 6 parents and carers are welcome to attend on either Monday 11th or Thursday 14th November at 2.30pm.

Congratulations to all of the children in the East who have received awards in the last two weeks for displaying our superstar qualities.
- Year 1 - Kozhan, Forest, Alfie-James, Jaxon
- Year 2 - Eliza, Bobbie R, Oliver, Jett
Spotlight on Attendance 🔦
See below for attendance over the last two weeks before half term. The whole school attendance dropped from the previous two weeks - let's work together to get that back up as we progress through this half term.
Please remember that absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.
Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.
The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.
School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.
What an absence means for your child?
At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.
If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school
If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.
If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
Important Safeguarding Alert
Recent concerns have emerged regarding a WhatsApp group known as ‘Add Everyone.’ Schools and regional police forces across the UK have warned that this group exposes children and young people to explicit and harmful material.
