Year 12 2024
The HSC exam period will conclude at the end of this week – congratulations to all of our students for making it through. Their next big event will be their Formal at Fins, Plantation House, next Wednesday evening (13 November 2024).
Wishing them all the best for all of the upcoming celebrations.
Year 9 and 10 Exams
These will be running over the next two weeks and will play a significant role in determining final results for all courses. Students should be working with their teachers to ensure they are well prepared.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
As the end of the school year starts to loom, students can sometimes forget the importance of those basic expectations which underpin the smooth functioning of the school day. With this challenge in mind, I would like to thank Ms Engel Pryer, our Head Teacher Maths, for providing a fortnightly focus for all of our students. Over the next two weeks, students will be encouraged to remember that “I’m in class ‘til quarter past”, referencing the official end of the school day at 3:15pm.
‘Eye on the Future’
I wrote about this in our last Kingy Spirit edition and had the great pleasure last Friday of “judging” student solar powered (miniature) vehicles completed by Coastal Learning Community students form both Kingscliff High School and our partner Coastal Learning Community primary schools. The quality of many of these projects was outstanding, as was the entire day, conducted in partnership with Southern Cross University and the Queensland Government. Many thanks to our own Mr Wiggins, and Ms Edwards from Bogangar Public School for their organisation of this event.
Combined Coastal Learning Community Staff Meeting
On Wednesday afternoon, 6 November 2024, our Teachers will be joined by their colleagues from Cudgen Public School, Kingscliff Public School, Bogangar Public School, Pottsville Beach Public School and Fingal Head Public School to reflect on what we have achieved through collaboration for our students this year and flag our ongoing efforts for 2025. Ongoing and highly successful programs such as Yuli, STEM (see above), sport and student leadership will continue. Alongside these, our teachers will build their collaboration around creating and building Learner Transition Passports, based on our partnership with MyStrengths, for students moving from Year 6 into Year 7. Teachers will also be sharing their classroom expertise across schools through collaborative Learning Walks, strengthening the link between primary school and high school learning.
Open Night - Tuesday 19 November 2024
A reminder to all of our school community about our amazing event which will formally open all of our new facilities and celebrate the outstanding learning which is taking place. Hoping to see everyone there. See separate flyer in this edition of Kingy Spirit.
Aboriginal Community Meeting
Our Aboriginal Education Team invite all members of our community to the next Aboriginal Education Parent & Community consultative meeting this Wednesday, 6 November 2024, from 5:30pm in our Library.
Wishing all of our school community a great week.

Reporting racism at Kingscliff High School
What is racism?
The Australian Human Rights Commission (2020) defines racism as: “Racism can take many forms, such as jokes or comments that cause offence or hurt, sometimes unintentionally; name-calling or verbal abuse; harassment or intimidation, or commentary in the media or online that inflames hostility towards certain groups.”
NOTE: ALL FORMS OF RACISM ARE NOT TOLERATED AT KHS.
Who do I talk to if I see, hear or know of racism happening?
If students hear or see racism at school or outside of school they can talk to any staff member, including the Anti-Racism Contact Officers.
Who are the ARCOs at KHS?
At Kingscliff High School we have 2 ARCOs: Jesse Haines and Nellie Hejduk. Any questions or concerns can be spoken about with Mr Haines or Mrs Hejduk as well as any other staff member. It is important that students feel safe to stand up and call out racism OR to report racism. It is every student’s right to feel safe and happy at school.
What does the ARCO do?
- The ARCO will have an educational conversation with the people involved about racism (this includes victims and perpetrators).
- The role of the ARCO is to educate about racism.
- Facilitate whole school anti-racism education initiatives where appropriate and relevant
- Help build the capacity of students to be upstanders when they experience or witness instances of racism.
- If racist behaviour becomes a pattern, the ARCO works with the executives, regards ongoing education.
What can you do at home?
Please make sure that you have open conversations about racism at home.
If you would like help in how to have these conversations, this is a great starting point: Racism No Way

Sometimes, we forget the impact our actions have on others.
When our intentions are kind, they build understanding and trust.
When our intentions are insensitive, they can leave invisible scars.
Intentions matter a lot, never forget that.

The Inclusive Education Unit is thrilled to announce that four of our talented students—Izacc Morton, Brody Shipman Turner, Zave Gee, and Lucas Goward—represented Kingscliff High School at The School Sport Unit Tenpin Finals in Sydney on Tuesday, 29 September. This remarkable accomplishment highlights the dedication and hard work of our students, and we are immensely proud of their achievements and the spirit they brought to the competition.
Congratulations to Izacc, Brody, Zave, and Lucas for their outstanding performance!
