The Ski Town

This is a postcard of a vacation destination I would like to go to. I chose Gstaad because I enjoy skiing and Gstaad is a cute little ski town. I learned how to use layer styles. My goal was to create a postcard that embodied the feel of a ski town. I think I could have done a better job on the background, but the letters and overall design of the postcard show what I wanted it to. I hope my postcard shows my audience that there are lots of small towns worth visiting.

Child Hunger

This is a photo montage showing how child hunger affects kids. I learned that it is hard to find the exact image you want. I also learned that you have to learn to manipulate them so that they fit in with the rest of the project. My goal was to portray what it was like to be hungry and how important it is for everyone to have food and water. I think I could have done a better job of portraying the overall meaning, but I think that with the time I was given and the images that I found I put together a decent collage. While looking at this image, I hope my audience understands the meaning of kids needing food and I hope that they gain perspective of what some people's lives are like.

Bases and Bonds

This is a screen print movie poster of a movie idea that I came up with. I intended the color scheme to emphasize the overall theme of military children and the life they live. I learned how to break an image down into a color scheme and I learned how to use typography to fill empty space and add meaning. My goal was to show the struggles of being a military child through the title and image. I think I did a good job with the overall poster, it was hard to add details and make things stand out with the color scheme I chose, but I think I embody the idea that I was trying to show. My hope for the audience is to understand that being a military child is no easy task, but you get to meet so many incredible people and go to amazing places.

The Giver

This is a cut media book cover made out of wood. I made it for the book The Giver and I tried to give an idea of what the book was about. I learned that color variation and shadows are important. I also learned how to effectively use adjustments and work with images to make them fit in with the overall image. My goal was to create a book cover that embodied the book and that used only wood media. The cover turned out great, it flows well together and it gives a little bit of information about the book without previously reading it. I hope this piece shows that beautiful art can be created through wood and other materials. I also hope my audience will feel compelled to read this book after seeing this cover.
