1: Croissant, France

These crescent, flaky goodness come from France. The croissants were influenced by kipferls, which is a pastry made with a brioche-like dough, and comes from the 13th century, in an Austrian City.

Croissants are made out of butter, flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and milk. They are baked at 375 F and can be made plain, or include nuts, or other fillings, which can be sweet or savory.

2: Mooncake, China

Mooncakes originate from China, and for a long time, mooncakes were used as a gift at the Mid-Autumn Festival. In Chinese culture, roundness symbolizes completeness and togetherness.

Mooncakes are made with a sweet baked dough on the outer part, filled with a red bean paste or lotus seed paste, and salted duck yolks, which represent the full moon - hence "mooncake."

The doughnut, originated in the US, is a popular sweet treat, most of the time eaten in the morning. Doughnuts go back to Dutch immigrants, in the 17th and 18th century New York. Back then, instead of being called doughnuts, they were called olie koeken or olykoeks, which translates to “oil cakes”. Even though they are similar to the doughnuts we know today, they were not in a ring shape that doughnuts are now recognized for.

Doughnuts are made from milk, active dry yeast, eggs, butter, salt, all-purpose flour, and oil.

Börek is a pastry that can be prepared in various ways – this pastry is placed into a large pan and cut into individual pieces. It is made of a thin, flaky dough, with a variety of fillings, like meat, cheese, spinach, or potatoes, and can be served either hot or cold. Börek is usually served at any time of the day — breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Churros are typically eaten as a snack, or can even be eaten for breakfast, dipped in champurrado, hot chocolate, dulce de leche, or cafe con leche. Churros were introduced in the 1500s, to South America during the Spanish Inquisition.

Churros are made out of flour, baking powder, oil, and boiling water to fry the churro. Then to garnish it, cinnamon and sugar is doused on.

Eclairs are a small, soft log-shaped pastry that is made of choux dough. This desert is also filled with cream, and topped with a sweet icing.

This pastry is named "Eclair" because it means “flash of lightning”, since it is eaten so quickly. Although, some people believe that it is named after the frosting, resembling lightning.

These crispy fried pastry shells are filled with a sweet, creamy, and delicious ricotta cheese that originate from Sicily, Italy.

This sweet treat's name is the plural of “cannoli”, meaning “little tube” in English. Cannolis are served as a dessert, and can be eaten cold or at room temperature.

Brioche is considered a very expensive bread because typically, butter, eggs, milk, and sugar are not normally found in bread.

It is similar to a doughnut, but the difference is that the Chinese cruller is not as sugary as donuts, but instead lightly salted.

This pastry is made out of all-purpose flour, eggs, salt, baking powder, milk, unsalted butter, and water.
