Miss America Visits NAS Pensacola, Tenant Commands

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Miss America 2025 Abbie Stockard, an Alabama native, greets Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola Commanding Officer Capt. Chandra 'Mamasan' Newman and NAS Pensacola Command Master Chief Jim Wallace July 15 before a tour of the installation and its tenant commands. Stockard's visit concentrated on meeting Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coastguardsmen, touring classrooms with service members training as the next generation of aviators and aviation maintenance technicians as well as observing the Coast Guard mission at the ‘Cradle of Naval Aviation.’

"It's been cool just to see the behind-the-scenes," Stockard said. "I feel like a lot of this is really foreign to me because i'm currently a nursing student going into healthcare, but it's very important to be educated on it, especially as Miss America because i'm representing all people so i'm happy to see all the insight and the hard work their putting into this field every single day."

Stockard met with NAS Pensacola leadership and toured the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) and its Aviation Boatswain's Mate 'A' School complex; the Branch Health Clinic; the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Diligence (WMEC-616); the NAS Pensacola Jet Port Cafe and Naval Security Forces; the U.S. Air Force's 451st Flying Training Squadron; and service members from commands at the NAS Pensacola Corry Station Annex.

"I admire them so much and I respect what they're doing," Stockard said. "I mean this is a tough field to go into and I don't think I could ever do it, so to see how much sacrifice they're putting into it, their dedication, their courage, their ambition, it's so impressive."

This biweekly e-newsletter intends to continue that mission to keep readers informed on current events at NAS Pensacola. The publication began in 1921 as Air Station News and adopted The Gosport moniker, named after a voice tube used by flight instructors in the early days of naval aviation, around 1936.
