Q & A with Jessie
What style, tradition, and/or lineage are you a part of?
I teach what I like to call Baptiste Fusion, a more advanced level power flow that would be most like the Baptiste practice but never really sticking to the "script" of Journey Into Power and sprinkling in some fun play!
What can a student expect from your classes?
High energy, loud music, fast paced power flow.... we like a well-heated room but even if that isn't an option...THEY WILL SWEAT!
What’s on your mind these days, yoga-wise?
The Health & Wellness Community... pre pandemic I started an initiative known now as Yoga 4 Instructors (Y4I) that focuses on offering the H & W teachers in our community an opportunity to practice with their peers for free! This has opened the door for me to visit a studio each month and spend time with their team, take classes and get to know the class offerings!
What’s your favorite pose and why?
Ahhhh, thats a hard one! In the beginning of my yoga journey I would have said Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance/Feathered Peacock)... made me feel strong and powerful, but with a sense of grace. NOW, almost 10 years in... I notice that I get all fired up when I bring my students to Virabhadrasana 11 (Warrior 2)... there is just something about seeing a room full of yogis in that pose! I love that you have to tap into ALL your bandhas to light it up, and when you do the sparks can just about be seen!!
What events are you hosting/leading/contributing to in the coming months?
IDOY 6/21
Y4I... 3rd Saturday each month, rotate teachers, FREE... lululemon Broughton Street 830a
My brain is in constant motion but my sights are set on bringing YOGA JAM back to life very very soon!!!! Stay tuned!!
What are your favorite spots in Savannah and why?
Bonaventure Cemetery... it holds a very special place in my heart. My deceased fur baby Cotton LOVED walking the cemetery and our first visit he took me straight to a bench that read. . .
We are the music makers. . .
we are the dreamers of dreams. . .
we are the movers and shakers of the world forever it seems. . .
Knod to Willy Wonka, and a bench we would visit every time we visited the cemetery... miss you Boo Boo
What other interests do you have outside of yoga?
MUSIC, I am a Jam Band follower, LIVE music is a must! I certainly have a love for being on the water and discovered Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) long ago! That is actually what led me to yoga!
What are three things you always carry with you?
My planner, my cup, Carmex lip balm.... and I almost always have bug spray handy!
What’s one thing about you that might surprise us?
I love McDonald's.
Jessie teaches Vinyasa 2 at 6pm on Tuesdays at NYN. You can also find her teaching at Savannah Bend Marina two Sundays a month at 9am.

Of all the yoga studios in Savannah, why NYN?
I love NYN because every class is infused with all elements of yoga, not just the physical Asana. Every time I come to class, I learn something new about my body and my mind.
Which class on the NYN schedule is the class you do not want to miss? Why?
The first class I ever came to, and now one of my favorites, is Will’s Fundamentals of Yoga. The workshop style of this class allows you to slow down and take notice of specific alignment cues that you may not have time for in a faster vinyasa flow. He incorporates props that offer a different sensation and I’m always doing something I’ve never done before!
Where is your favorite place to go/what is your favorite thing to do in Savannah?
You’ll most likely run into me having a bite and reading a book at some sort of coffee shop or cute restaurant nearby.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
Music is a huge part of my soul. I love to sing and play guitar when I'm alone or with the people I’m closest to. I’m grateful to work in a field where music plays an intentional role. I’m a massage therapist and esthetician so I use my spa music as a way to bring my clients to that meditative state that’s so hard to reach (unless you’re in Savasana after a class at NYN!)
