Johnston Community Primary School Friday 8th March 2024

Dear parents/guardians,

It has been a busy few weeks in school and last week we held our annual school Eisteddfod. Mrs Davies (Retired Headteacher) and Mr Denham (Retired teacher) were very impressed by the Children's work. Thank you for your effort and support with these competitions. Our Eisteddfod is a lovely Johnston tradition which allows children to learn more about our Welsh Culture and heritage.

Each year, our Eisteddfod culminates with a our chairing of the bard. Year six pupils are invited to write a story under a pseudonym. This year, 29 of our year six pupils wrote stories to enter the competition. The judges were very impressed by the standard of writing, especially the creativity and imagination which pupils had used. Well done to all pupils who entered and a special well done to this year's winner. Kai's story kept our judges gripped to the end. Well done Kai!

Summer Holiday Provision - Have your say! (Final week to respond)

For the first time last summer, we ran a provision called 'Food and Fun'. School who wish to take part are able to apply for separate funding which supports the initiative. Food and Fun operates Monday-Thursday, 8:00 until 13:00 each day for three weeks. There is no charge for families taking part and pupils are provided with breakfast and a hot meal. I am currently planning provision for next summer. Food and fund provision is staffing with adults who currently work at Johnston C.P. School. I have created a small consultation for parents to complete. I would like to find out how many parents would be interest in using the provision. Please note - this is only a consultation and until I have more information I am unable to guarantee places at this point. I have to consider how many parents are interested in using the provision in different age phases as I need to plan staffing, activities and age groups.

As ever, if there is anything that I can help with, my email address is Williamsr1688@hwbcymru.net

Kind regards,

Mr. Williams.

Friday Booking Form

Please ensure that pupils are booked for Friday afternoon provision using this form. This allows me to plan staffing effectively.  I have changed the form slightly to help me analyse the data. Please complete one form per child.

Attendance Reminder

Well done to year five who achieved 93% attendance this week. You are our best class this week.

Don't forget the really useful guidance provided by the NHS: Is my child too ill for school?

This will help you make a decision about whether to keep a child off school or send them in. Please remember that minor coughs and colds should not prevent a child from coming into school.

This time of year is really exciting and busy. If children miss school they are not only missing learning, but often will miss lots of our special events and activities, which makes them feel left out.
