Boarders' Celebration Day

Our boarders enjoyed their annual Celebration Day on Sunday, which was a lovely way to say goodbye to our Upper Sixth students leaving us at the end of their exams. Held outside J&O for the first time this year, there was a delicious lunch, as well as party games including a piñata and the limbo! Mrs Silve shared some personal words about each Upper Sixth student, and reflected on their time in boarding and at KC across the years. We wish all of our Upper Sixth boarders the best of luck in their exams and their future adventures after KC.

Boarders Trip to Go Ape

Our boarders had an fantastic adventure at Go Ape in Bedgebury this weekend! Surrounded by the stunning woodland, students embraced the challenge of the treetop course, navigating high ropes, soaring down zip wires, and clambering across cargo nets suspended high above the forest floor. It was a thrilling experience that tested their courage, teamwork, and agility—and left everyone with huge smiles and a real sense of accomplishment.

Junior Dance Company Competition

Last weekend, our Junior Dance Company, consisting of Years 9 and 10 dancers, took part in The Dance Championships Competition at The Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks. The Dance Championships offer Dance departments and students the opportunity to access the competition world and provide experiences for them to compete against other secondary schools. There was a panel of professional industry judges who scored the dancers marks out of 100 in presentation, technique, choreography and musicality.

After all their hard work in rehearsals, we are delighted to have placed third and fourth out of eight schools. Congratulations to all of our dancers! Mrs Noyek and Miss Johnson are very proud of you all.

Kitty in our Catering Team will be appearing in the latest series of Bake Off: The Professionals, airing next week on Tuesday 27th May at 8pm on Channel 4. Do tune in to support her. Good luck Kitty - we can't wait to see how you get on in the competition!

Art

Year 7

Over the last month the Year 7's have been busy creating Still Life paintings. Most of the students have opted for food items such as fruit, doughnuts and chocolate. Not quite finished but they look very good so far!

Year 9

Year 9 are making Mosaic panels inspired by Parisian Street Artist “Invader”.

His pieces have become a recognisable addition to many city street corners around the world including London. We wonder where these will end up…

Textiles

Year 8

Year 8 students are currently exploring the bold and energetic world of Keith Haring, the iconic American pop artist known for his graffiti-inspired drawings and vibrant, visual language.

Inspired by Haring’s work, the students have been developing their own designs and are now in the process of transferring these onto fabric cushions using fabric paints. This week, they’ve begun testing colour samples on different fabrics to see how the colours react and change after being put through the heat press.

It’s an exciting process full of colour, creativity, and experimentation.

Year 10

Our Year 10 students have recently begun working on their first component for GCSE Textiles, centred around the exciting and imaginative theme of "Mushrooms." To spark inspiration and help them start thinking creatively, Mrs Smith and Mrs GM have been sharing a variety of sketchbooks and presentation boards from previous cohorts.

These resources give the students a glimpse into the potential breadth and depth of their own projects. Over the coming half term, the students will delve deeper into the theme, developing their own interpretations and deciding on the sample swatches they'd like to experiment with and create.

This is a key moment for exploring ideas, testing materials, and starting to shape their unique artistic responses to the theme.

Gymnastics Success

Congratulations to Lucy in Year 10 who competed on Sunday in the Regional Bronze category Floor & Vault at the South East Regional Floor and Vault Gymnastics Championships in Guildford, Surrey.

We are thrilled to report that Lucy came 1st on Vault ! We are so proud of her!

International Study Centre

International Sixth Form students from the ISC have been collaborating with a school in Poland over the last few months, since first making contact through an online Model United Nations event a year ago.

Following online discussions to chat about pressing global issues, the students have exchanged letters and poems. The Polish students received our letters this week and were delighted to hear from KC!

"I really liked writing my poem on friendship, and I also liked reading the poems the Polish students sent to us. I am grateful for this opportunity to learn about poetry and share them with students from another country." Year 10
"It was really meaningful to use poems to share love and hope. I loved seeing the smiling faces after they got our poems, as I saw them reading carefully. I think they liked the poems really very much and I think this kind of activity can spread each others thinking." Layeon, Lower Sixth
"Poetry helps different cultures understand each other. When people translate and share poems, they learn new ways of seeing the world. It shows how cultures can mix beautifully while keeping their own cultures." Aila, Lower Sixth

Parent Workshop

One of the KC School Counsellors, Esther, is running a course in August, specifically designed to support Year 6 and 8 students and their parents, as they prepare for the big leap to secondary school. This course provides a calm space for families to build confidence, emotional resilience, and connection during this key moment and will hopefully help children navigate this transition with a mix of excitement and anxiety.

About Esther...

Esther Obiri-Darko is a highly experienced psychotherapist and educator specialising in child and adolescent mental health. With a background spanning schools, private practice, and humanitarian contexts, she offers evidence-based, trauma-informed support to young people, families, and staff. Her work combines psychodynamic psychotherapy, play therapy, CBT, EMDR and the latest neuroscience research.

A deep understanding of the educational landscape enables her to deliver impactful workshops, therapeutic interventions, and staff training.

Esther has a particular interest in anxiety, body image, the impact of social media, and emotional regulation, and she’s passionate about equipping school communities with tools to support well-being and resilience.

The course runs throughout August in Tunbridge Wells, and families can choose the five days that suit them best.
