A year full of promise...

...the slate is clean and anything can happen. How exciting!

A peek at the first week of school...

Pre-K

Whether enjoying read-a-louds or engaging in make-believe, our preschoolers seem to be eagerly settling into what for many of them is their first-ever school experience.

Kindergarten

Learning through play & making friendship bracelets.

1st Grade

Start-of-School-Year photos, going over class routines, sharing what they did for summer, and celebrating September birthdays!

2nd Grade

Our kids enjoyed working with math manipulatives...and reading Meesha Makes Friends, a book about the best ways to make new friends, followed up by an activity where students interviewed their classmates, discovering interests they may have in common. Students also spent some time in the school library taking their beginning-of-year assessments to provide data so their teachers can target instruction.

3rd & 4th Grades

Students posed for school-arrival photos, some traditional, some goofy...and the Conti School Garden was the perfect setting to enjoy the recently temperate weather, as Rm. 203 students immersed themselves in a descriptive writing assignment.

5th Grade

Rm. 314 students enjoy a cozy, literacy-rich classroom environment...while Rm. 312 students had fun building social skills with teamwork and getting untangled!

6th Grade

Students played ice-breaker games designed have classmates get to know each other better...accompanied by writers notebook entries which they shared with their peers.

7th Grade

Students got familiar with class expectations & the Code of Conduct...and in science class, were tasked with saving Fred the Gummy Worm, by using team building & engineering skills!

8th Grade

At Conti, community circles take place regularly school-wide, from grades K to 8...with participants ranging from students, teachers, & administrators. The teacher sets the tone & purpose of the discussion, and the only person who can speak is the one holding a "talking piece," like a stuffed animal or pom-pom. These discussion groups can have a powerful effect on relationship building throughout the school year.

MISSION FORWARD

Our district's guiding mantra this year is "Going for the Gold at all times!" Members of the PS5 community - students, faculty, & parents - let's set our expectations high and embrace challenges. And view fear & the possibility of failure not as reasons to give up, but as natural parts of the process that can fuel our efforts!
