Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week our Year 6 (and some Y5) children went to Condover on our residential trip. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to stay away from home (often for the first time), develop key skills such as team work and resilience, experience lots of new and exciting opportunities and above all, have lots and lots of fun! We could not provide these opportunities without our fantastic staff team who went with them. A big thank you to Mr Naylor, Miss Penman, Miss Taylor and Miss Morley!
Matt Wright, founder and leader of Barnsley Youth Choir will be at West Meadows Primary on Monday 7th October. All children in Key Stage 2 will have an opportunity to take part in a workshop in the morning, followed by a longer and more detailed workshop for some children in the afternoon. Parents of these children will be invited into school at 3pm for a special performance. Invites will be sent via email next week. Barnsley Youth Choir are also opening an exciting new division of their choir in Hoyland and this is an exciting opportunity for some of our children who love singing and performing to join this. We have sent out initial information and a link to sign up your child via email this week.
A reminder that next week in assembly we will be asking our Year 6 children who would like to be House Captains to present their letters explaining why they would like to do the role and what they think they could offer, including how they live up to our school values. Children in Years 2-5 who would like to be on School Council will also be asked to do the same in class.
Next week and the week after, our teachers have an exciting opportunity to take part in networking day with teachers across HCAT (Hoyland Common Academy Trust). These days provide professional development and support to our staff so we can continually improve the offer we provide to your children. Staff absence on these days will be covered by myself, Miss Grange and Miss Morley as HLTAs so children will still see a familiar face at the classroom door in the morning. Training days are as follows:
Year 3 - Monday 23rd Sept
Year 2 - Tuesday 24th Sept
Year 1 - Wednesday 25th Sept
EYFS - Thursday 26th Sept
Year 6 - Monday 30th Sept
Year 5 - Tuesday 1st Oct
Year 4 - Wednesday 2nd Oct
A reminder that school starts at 8:45am for all children. Children should be on the playground for 8:40am when the first bell rings. This is the signal for all children to line up outside of their classroom doors. Classroom doors will be open at 8:45am for children. Many thanks for supporting us so far this year in making sure children are ready to start their learning on time.
You will notice that we have some new safeguarding posters going up around school. This explains to everyone who visits school, including you as parents/carers, who our safeguarding team is in school: myself as Safeguarding Lead, and Miss Galbraith, Mrs Maree and Miss Jobling as Deputy Safeguarding Leads. We work in partnership with you to keep all of our children safe so please feel free to come and speak to us at any time if you have any concerns.
Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
