32 MGD of new advanced wastewater treatment online at Big Creek WRF

Roswell, Georgia - The expansion of the Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility has achieved its latest significant milestone, as 32 MGD of advanced wastewater treatment has been put into operation. This includes the full liquids process with a new Headworks, inclusive of 6mm Coarse Screening and Grit Removal, Primary Clarification, Fine Screening at 2mm, Biological Nutrient Removal with Large Bubble Mixing and Fine Bubble Diffusion and a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) treatment process. MBR technology is one of the most advanced treatment technologies in wastewater treatment. The system combines biological treatment/nutrient removal with ultrafiltration membranes that filter out particles greater than 0.04 µm (about one millionth of an inch) in diameter.

The overall project, being delivered by Archer Western Construction and Brown and Caldwell via a progressive design-build delivery method, expands the Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility from 24 MGD to 32 MGD, and is Fulton County's largest single capital improvement project to date.

Diverging Diamond Interchange opens at I-26 / US 25

Hendersonville, North Carolina - Archer Western and Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. have opened this new diverging diamond interchange at I-26 / US 25, part of the I-26 Widening Project.

A diverging diamond interchange allows free-flowing turns when entering and exiting an interstate, eliminating the left turn against oncoming traffic and limiting the number of traffic signal phases. It is easy to navigate, eliminates last-minute lane changes and provides better sight distance at turns, resulting in fewer crashes. The design reduces congestion and better moves high volumes of traffic without the need to increase the number of lanes in an interchange.

Archer Western opens Gilbert Road Bridge for summer traffic

Mesa, Arizona - The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has reopened part of the new Gilbert Road Bridge in time to accommodate Arizona's summer traffic. Construction work will continue on the second half of the bridge as traffic moves across the completed portion.

The $50.3 million bridge replaces an existing two-lane structure and low water crossing which had become flooded during high water flows in the Salt River.
