Write Around Portland Workshop

This hands-on creative writing workshop is for people of all experience levels, and even culminates in a publication of final works!
Engage & Educate: Volunteer Mixer

Join us for our first Volunteer Mixer of the new year! We’ll gather to share stories, deepen connections, and learn with and from one another. This intentional volunteer space is evolving, and volunteers are invited to help shape the experience. Volunteers are welcome (but not required) to share a short video, poem, excerpt, or other inspiration for collective reflection and discussion. If you’re interested in attending, let either Mary or Dev know in person or send either of them an email (Mary: mbedfordcarter@maybellecenter.org or Dev: dburgoyne@maybellecenter.org), and you’ll receive a calendar reminder!

Strike up some fun with us at Punch Bowl Social for n afternoon of bowling and connection! We have room for 12 Members, so sign up in the Community Room to save your spot! You’re welcome to meet us at Punch Bowl Social at 1 PM or join the group in the Community Room at 12:30 PM to ride the MAX together.
March Art Class: Zentangles with John G.

Relax, reduce stress, and create with the art of Zentangle. Our very own Member, John G., completed his certification as a Zentangle instructor, and he’s agreed to show us some basics in our art class! We'll learn about “tangles” and the process for these wonderful artworks. All materials will be provided—just sign up in the Community Room or with Anastasio (awrobel@maybellecenter.org or 503-241-7374 ext.3005).

New Season's Market Insights
This month, I wanted to share a few tips that make this usually expensive market a little more accessible!
- Their sales & coupons are very reasonable
- Looking to recycle? They'll take used clear plastic clamshell containers and white plastic bags for free
- Have cans to cash in? They take up to $3/day in bottle returns per person, no green bag required
Ongoing Opportunities
Changes to ongoing opportunities:
- Community Room will close early on Friday, March 6th, at 1:30 PM to support the Karaoke Party happening from 1:30-3 PM.
- Theatre: Theatre will be back in the Spring of 2026!
- Movies & Birthdays: Going forward, when Birthday Party happens (on the fourth Thursday of the month), there will be no Movie and Popcorn that day in the Community Room.
Ongoing opportunities details:
- Community Room: Monday, 1–3 PM; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM.
- Choir: Mondays 3-4:30 PM in the Classroom. Come sing with us, regardless of your past choir experience (or complete lack there of)!
- CareOregon Advantage Q&A: 2nd Tuesday of the Month, 10:30 AM - Noon in the Community Room. Reps from Care Oregon will answer your questions on aging, disability, and Medicare. (March date: 3/10)
- Karaoke: In 2026, we will have seasonal karaoke parties, instead of 2x/month in the Community Room. Our next karaoke party will be Friday, March 6th, 1:30-3 PM!
- Heart Circles: Every Thursday, 11:15 AM in the Classroom. A safer space for folks to speak from their hearts, to be heard, and to listen. This will be a combined group in place of Men’s, Women’s, and Rainbow Group, facilitated by a staff member.
- Movie and Popcorn: Every Thursday 12:30 - 2:30 PM in the Community Room. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy a classic film or new blockbuster together. Going forward, we won't have Movie and Popcorn on the day we have Birthday Party.
- Birthday Party: Usually the fourth Thursday of the Month, 1:30 - 2:30 PM. A monthly celebration of member birthdays with cake (gluten-free and sugar-free available) and live music. (March date: 3/26)
- Bingo: Every Friday, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM in the Community Room. Join us for some friendly competition and get ready to shout "Bingo!"
- Knitting & Crochet: First, third, and fifth Fridays of the month from 12:30 - 2:30 PM in the Community Room. Tools, materials, and instruction will be available to make with us!
- Game Time Social: Second and fourth Fridays of the month from 12:30 - 2:30 PM, stop by the Community Room for a board or card game with fellow Members, volunteers, or staff.
- Monthly Art Class: The last Tuesday of the month, join us for a new art class hosted in the Starlight Apartments space. (March date: 3/31 for Zentangle tutorial, taught by John G.)
- Monthly Arts & Culture Outing: Join us for a group outing to take in some of Portland's extensive arts and culture. (March date: 3/27 for bowling at Punch Bowl Social)
- Member Forum: Quarterly, 12:45 AM - 2:30 PM in the Community Room. Join us each quarter to brainstorm new ideas, discuss any concerns, and eat lunch together. (Next meeting date will be Friday April 17, 2026)
- Theatre Class: Theatre will back in Spring 2026!
