From the Principal
Dear Parents/Caregivers, Year 9 Camp It has been a big week for Year 9 with them attending camp at the Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. I went up to visit them yesterday to witness for myself the fun they were having. I may have even participated in the Giant Swing and Archery – thankyou to Amelia T and Sophie B for encouraging me to join them on the swing and for giving me the responsibility for pulling the release cord – I have never gasped and laughed so loudly! Camps are an important rite of passage in a students’ school experience. The outdoor learning provides students with the opportunity to push their limits, create new social connections and take a break from the routine and pressure of classroom learning. Year 9 camp also focuses on providing opportunities for students to develop a broader skillset to prepare them to enter senior schooling with a new or renewed sense of self-confidence, a wider social network, problem solving skills and, hopefully, a sharper focus on their learning, having had the chance to take a break from the wider school community and just be locked down with their cohort for a few days. We look forward to welcoming them back today with many stories to tell. Thankyou to Ms Campbell for organising the camp and to her trusty crew of accompanying teachers – Mr Zabakly, Ms McNeil-Dean, Ms Millington and Ms Chilcott. They all seemed to be enjoying the activities, too. Year 10 Transition for Success Week Year 10 will participate in the Riverside initiative, Transition for Success, in Week 8 (beginning Monday 1 December). The purpose of this week is to provide students with insights into the courses they have chosen for Stage 6 through taster lessons; to revisit the basics of our whole school learning strategies, such as PEEL (to scaffold and model best practice in academic writing) and Learning Intentions Success Criteria (LISC) to remind students of the purpose of LISC in making explicit the purpose and learning goals of the lesson; pathways planning with the Careers Adviser, Ms Soares, in collaboration with Macquarie University; a study skills session delivered by Elevate; as well as a wellbeing day at Luna Park, organised by Ms Aldred. Thankyou to Ms Mihailou, for coordinating this day, along with all of our teachers for providing this wonderful opportunity for Year 10 to prepare for their HSC studies. Year 9 Peer Support Training An important part of our leadership development program at Riverside is building leadership capacity through formal activities, such as training peer support leaders. A big thanks to Ms Campbell and her team of teachers and support staff who had a big day today training groups of Year 9 future leaders in skills that they will need to be effective leaders; their first gig being to support our Year 6 students in their transition to high school in 2026. Orientation Day This leads into Year 7 Orientation Day which is held statewide on the same day in all public schools – Tuesday 2 December 2025. We look forward to welcoming our Year 6 students from no less than 20 primary schools to join us in a day of workshops to introduce them to life as a high school student. The day will begin with an assembly for parents and students, led by Ms Hendriks, the Year 7 Year Adviser 2026. Parents will be introduced to Head Teachers and have the opportunity to listen to current Year 7 students share their stories of high school. Year 6 will then go into school groups and be accompanied by their peer support leaders who will spend the day with their group and continue as their peer support leader next year. It is a huge comfort for students transitioning into an unfamiliar school environment, particularly primary school to high school, to have a familiar face awaiting them and greeting them at their first day of high school and beyond. It is always an emotional day for parents but one that we look forward to. Thankyou to all of our peer support leaders in advance for putting your hand up to be our “big sisters”.
HSC Showcase ENCORE
Our very own Freya N has been selected to perform her song, Take Me Home, in the HSC Showcase, Encore. This is the highest level of HSC achievement for Music students and happens after a rigorous, multi-staged shortlisting process, beginning with the HSC performance. Congratulations to Freya and to Ms Wang, who has been her passionate, dedicated Music teacher since Year 7.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

From the Deputy Principal
Please remind your young person the importance of tapping on and off with their school Opal cards when at the start and end of their journeys. Tapping on and off is vital, not only for ensuring fare compliance, but recording passenger numbers as well. This patronage data plays a critical role in planning and maintaining ferry and bus services, helping to ensure services are provided when and where they are required the most. Thanks for your support of this service. Melissa Gleeson Deputy Principal

Work Experience Drama - Spotlight on Quinn B
This term, Year 11 Drama student Quinn B stepped into the spotlight during work experience with a professional production of Hamlet. Immersed in the fast-paced world of live theatre, Quinn observed the creative process from rehearsal room to outdoor stage, gaining firsthand insight into how theatre is brought to life. When asked about the experience, Quinn said: "Being a part of Hamlet at Dungog Shakespearience was such an amazing experience, and unlike anything I'd ever been a part of. I got to work alongside so many super talented actors and learnt so much from them. Getting to do a scene in the round was one of my favourite parts, as it was something I had never done before in acting, and taught me a lot about the challenges of staging, and was just a really fun experience". This Saturday night, the production of Hamlet, with Quinn as the Gravedigger, will be reprised at Lane Cove Canopy. The show will go from 6pm to 8pm and the audience is encouraged to BYO food and picnic rug or chairs, to enjoy the show. For more information, visit: https://www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/Events- directory/Shakesperience-Hamlet The photos below are from Quinn’s performance at Dungog Shakespearience.

Primary Links Program
Our Primary Links Program has been buzzing with excitement as Year 5 students from our local primary schools continue their series of fun and engaging taster lessons at Riverside. This week marked their fourth visit, with students once again showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to jump into new learning experiences. A special mention must go to our incredible Year 8 mentors, who have done a fantastic job stepping up into leadership roles. Their guidance, positivity, and support have played a huge part in helping our young visitors feel welcome and confident each week. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next week for the final session, where we will celebrate the students’ achievements with a special presentation and afternoon tea.

Riverside Arts Night
Congratulations to our talented creative and performing arts students for their excellent work in the Riverside Arts Night. The event took place last Thursday 13 November with a stunning display of our Years 7-11 Visual Arts student work, followed by a series of outstanding performances from our Music and Dance students.
Every student, and their work, is a credit to their approach to learning in the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) their ability to embrace creativity, take risks to generate works that communicate ideas important to them, and bring energy and integrity to their chosen media.
Congratulations also to their teachers: Ms Hendriks, Ms Mitchell, Ms Wang, Ms White, Ms Millington, and Ms Kulinitsch, supported by Ms Nikic and Ms Serov, who have assisted them throughout the year.
Thank you also to our ensemble tutors and conductors who have worked with our students.
We can’t wait for more creative and performing arts endeavours in 2026!
Classics By The Cove - Thursday 27 November 6pm
Classics by the Cove is on next week! There is much excitement in our Year 7 English and Drama classes, and in the Year 9 Drama lessons, as we are eagerly preparing for next week’s Classics by the Cove. Students are putting the finishing touches on the props they have made, and they are memorising their lines, as the final class rehearsals will take place over this next week. The English Faculty have enjoyed witnessing the students engage with these classic texts and demonstrate their critical and creative skills as they have approached the development of their class performance. All classes have collaborated effectively in creating these performances. Next Thursday, students will have a dress rehearsal run through, so they need to bring in their Drama blacks / costumes / props from home during the day. The rehearsals will take place as follows: Period 1: 7E (Mr De-Bres/Ms Purisima) and 7G (Mr Hossain) Period 2: 7K (Ms Mulcahy) and 7M (Ms Reoch) Period 3: Year 9 Drama (Ms Philpott) Period 4: 7T (Ms Campbell) Students will attend all other timetabled lessons on Thursday. We look forward to sharing these performances with the Riverside Community on Thursday 27 November at 6pm. All performers need to be back at school at 5:40pm for roll marking in the gym. We invite our Riverside community to join us for the evening to enjoy the performances. The P&C will be selling refreshments before the performances and during intermission. The photos below are of some rehearsals that have taken place this week.

Year 7 Genius 75 Showcase
The 2025 Year 7 Genius75 Showcase will provide an opportunity for Year 7 students to showcase their Genius75 projects. A core component of the Genius75 program is that students are engaged within the showcase process to meet the expectations of the course. In particular, this showcase is important as it offers a chance of an authentic audience of Parents/Carers and the Riverside Girls High School Community, to share and acknowledge Year 7 students' efforts this year.
SRC Planning Day
On Friday 31 October, the Student Representative Council held a planning day to discuss exciting new initiatives for the upcoming year. Students of all grades collaborated to brainstorm ideas focused on school spirit, sustainability, and student wellbeing. The day was a great success, with plenty of enthusiasm and teamwork shaping the SRC’s goals for the year ahead. By Angelique G
Riverside Shines at Volleyball Schools Cup Tournaments
Last week, Riverside proudly entered five teams into the Volleyball Schools Cup, and every group represented our school with exceptional skill, teamwork and determination. Across the three days of competition, our players showed outstanding cohesion, lifted one another’s spirits and demonstrated tremendous growth in both technique and strategic play. We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our teams, with two Riverside teams taking home gold medals—a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work, commitment and resilience. Well done to our Year 11 & 9 Squads. What stood out most was the unwavering positivity shown by our girls each day. Whether celebrating a win or rallying after a tough set, their sportsmanship and enthusiasm made our school incredibly proud. Congratulations to all our Riverside volleyball players—an incredible effort by every single player!
