A Spotlight on our Athletes!

Midland, Tx

We had a blast on November 2, 2023 at the Breakfast of Champions in the Permian Basin. The morning began with the Honor Guard presented by the Midland County Sheriff's Office along with the LETR and athlete precession. Arianna Salas, the Abell Choir Director, did a beautiful job singing the National Anthem before Sheriff David Criner of Midland County Sheriffs Office gave an invocation to the breakfast. Jay Hendricks gave a warm welcome to the attendees and continued on to emcee the breakfast.

We were excited to hear from a Special Olympics Texas Unified Team - Robert Willard, Ethan Truijillo, and Axel Chavez, Special Olympics Texas Athlete - Ashton Crocker, SO College - Keaton Bentley, Gabriel Hernandez, and Steven Flores, LETR - Lieutenant Caleb Lacey from Odessa Police Department, and Community Partner - Tracee Bentley, President and CEO of the Permian Strategic Partnership.

Texas Tennis Hall of Fame!

Cindy Benzon

Cindy Benzon, Community Services Coordinator, Adaptive and Wheelchair Tennis for USTA Texas, was inducted into the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame in Waco Saturday, November 11, along with three other Texans. Cindy has been a great support to Special Olympics Texas, and has been State Games tournament director for more than 15 years.

The name Cindy Benzon is synonymous with Adaptive Tennis, and it would not exist or thrive in Texas without Cindy’s involvement, not because it was in her job description but because it is in her heart to serve those with disabilities. -houstontennis.org

Book Character Day!

Seminary Hills Park Elementary School

Before Halloween, students all dressed up like a different book character, and did a parade around the school!

The Bad Seed by Jory John is the name of the book that the RISE class read and dressed up as for the parade! We are so proud of our #UnifiedGeneration!

Volunteering Spotlight!

The National Charity League, Inc., Bay Area Chapter

Special Olympics Texas would like to thank the NCL Bay Area Chapter for their volunteer support at the East Region volleyball competition!

Volunteers don't only support us at big state games, they show up and show out at regional and area competitions as well! Without their time, effort, and selfless support, competitions wouldn't run nearly as smoothly. Thank you, volunteers!
