On Saturday, April 27th the Mammoths competed at the NESCAC Track & Field Championships. It was a historic day for the program as both the Women's and Men's teams placed the highest in program history as both teams placed Second as a team!

Women's Long Jump
The first events of the day began bright and early at 9 AM and the Women's Long Jump was a huge event for the Mammoths! Jumping for the first time in the outdoor season, Eliza Cardwell placed third and earned six points for the Mammoths, jumping a mark of 5.60 meters (18' 4.5")! Héloïse Hughes placed fourth, earning five points for the Mammoths, jumping 5.51 meters (18' 1") in only her second time jumping this season and in the last two years! Anastasia Ioppolo placed fifth, earning four points for the Mammoths, jumping a huge season best jump of 5.47 meters (17' 11.5")! Leah Smith placed tenth, jumping 5.22 meters (17' 1.5"), a season best jump! Together, the Mammoths scored 15 points for the team in this event!
Men's High Jump
Gabe Dos Santos and Alex Robin placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the High Jump, earning 8.5 points for the Mammoths! They both cleared 1.92 meters (6' 3.5") and it was a huge personal best jump for Alex!
Men's Shot Put
David Brown placed sixth, earning three points for the team by throwing a personal best throw of 14.51 meters (47' 7.25") on his final throw! Jacob Shine placed 13th, throwing 12.84 meters (42' 1.5") and Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed 16th, throwing 12.44 meters (40' 9.75").
Women's Javelin
Carolina Andrade placed fifth, earning four points for the Mammoths, throwing a mark of 36.70 meters (120' 5")! Morgan Rome placed seventh, earning two points for the Mammoths, throwing a mark of 36.53 meters (119' 10")! Together, they scored six points for the team!
Women's Hammer
Beth Martin placed tenth, throwing a mark of 37.99 meters (124' 8") and Emma Ramsingh placed 12th, setting a personal best with a throw of 37.14 meters (121' 10")!

10,000 Meters
The 10,000 was the first track event of the day for the Mammoths and the Women competed first. Allison Lounsbury ran a gritty race and placed eighth, earning one point for the Mammoths, running a season best time of 38:20! Daphne Witherell placed 16th, running a time of 39:39.
The Men's 10,000 was huge for the Mammoths, as Harrison Dow placed second, earning eight points for the Mammoths! Harrison ran an excellent race, positioning himself in the front pack from the gun and moved into second place with two laps to go and closed well, holding his position and running a personal best time of 30:31! Theo Dassin placed sixth, earning three points for the Mammoths! Theo ran a great race, staying engaged with the chase pack and moved up through the field as the race progressed, including a critical move with four laps to go, where he moved up two places and then he used a strong final lap to place sixth, running a personal best time of 31:18! George Cahill placed 12th, running a time of 32:02. Sam Young ran a strong race in his first 10,000, using a speedy last lap to place 14th in a time of 32:15! Drew Stephens placed 15th in a personal best time of 32:17!
100 & 110 Hurdles Prelims
Next on the track was the 100 Hurdles Prelims, where the Mammoths advanced three women to the 100 Hurdles final! Arissa McGowan earned her place in the final by winning her heat in a time of 15.34 seconds! Anaya Thomas placed second in the same heat, running a personal best time of 15.53 seconds to earn her spot in the final! Myeh Medina placed second in her heat, running a personal best time of 14.94 seconds to earn her spot in the final! Olivia Steele placed 12th overall and fourth in her heat, tying her personal best by running a time of 15.90 seconds!
In the 110 Hurdles Prelims, Alton Machen placed second in his heat in a personal best time of 15.14 seconds, earning his spot in the final! Noah Harris placed placed third in his heat and ninth overall in a time of 15.70 seconds and Michael Gerfen placed sixth in his heat and 16th overall, running a time of 16.36 seconds.
100 Prelims
All three Amherst women competed in the same preliminary heat of the 100, where Héloïse Hughes placed second in her heat and earning a spot in the final, by running a season best time of 12.37 seconds! Eliza Cardwell placed third in the heat and tenth overall, just missing the final in her first open 100 race in college, running a time of 12.55 seconds! Rachel Hubley placed sixth in the heat and 16th overall in a season best time of 12.70 seconds!
Jordan Harrison won his preliminary heat of the 100, earning his spot in the final by winning in a time of 10.63 seconds! Ben Bell placed third in his preliminary heat and earned the last spot in the final by running a personal best time of 11.01 seconds!

Men's Pole Vault
Alec Kuzyk came up clutch in the Pole Vault, placing sixth and earning three points for the Mammoths by clearing 4.55 meters (14' 11") on his last attempt at the height, setting a personal best!
Men's Javelin
The Men's Javelin was huge for the Mammoths, as all three Mammoths scored points for the team! Kevin Ryu had an amazing day, placing fourth and earning five points for the Mammoths! Kevin threw a huge personal best throw of 53.75 meters (176' 4") on his final throw of the day! Santi Benbow placed sixth, earning three points for the Mammoths! Santi's last throw was his best throw of the day, as he threw a mark of 50.64 meters (166' 2")! Alex Robin placed eighth, earning one point for the Mammoths! Alex moved into eighth place on his second to last throw, throwing a mark of 47.48 meters (155' 9")! Together, these three men earned nine points for the team!
Men's Hammer
Charlie Spurrell placed fourth, earning five points for the Mammoths! Charlie used a huge fifth throw to move into fourth place, throwing a mark of 51.71 meters (169' 8")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi had a huge day, placing seventh and earning two points for the Mammoths! Hugh's final throw was critical, as he moved from eighth place to seventh place, uncorking a huge personal best throw of 48.34 meters (158' 7")! Together, Charlie and Hugh earned seven points for the Mammoths in the event!
Men's Long Jump
Adrian Friedman placed fourth in an incredibly competitive Men's Long Jump competition, earning five points for the Mammoths! Adrian jumped a mark of 6.99 meters (22' 11.25"), a season best jump! Michael Abbey placed eighth, earning one point for the Mammoths! Michael jumped a season best jump of 6.77 meters (22' 2.5")! Kaleb Barrett placed 14th, jumping 6.54 meters (21' 5.5"). In total, the Mammoths earned six points in the event!
Women's Shot Put
Emma Ramsingh placed tenth with a throw of 10.44 meters (34' 3") in the Women's Shot Put, Beth Martin placed 12th with a season best throw of 10.24 meters (33' 7.25") and Isabella Niemi placed 17th with a throw of 9.70 meters (31' 10").

3,000 Steeplechase
The next event on the track was the 3,000 Steeplechase, where in the Women's race, Emma Vatnsdal placed sixth in her heat and 18th overall in a time of 12:49.
The Men's Steeplechase was an incredible race for the Mammoths, as Ian Dopp placed second for the Mammoths, earning eight points for the Mammoths! Ian positioned himself in the lead pack from the gun and with a lap to go, he seized the lead and opened up a gap on the field and fought all the way to the finish line, crossing in second place in a huge personal best time of 9:10 that is Second All-Time at Amherst in the event! Harrison Talcott placed eighth, earning one point for the Mammoths! Harrison ran a hard fought race and moved up three places on the final lap to score points for the Mammoth, running a personal best time of 9:35! Together, Ian and Harrison earned nine points for the team!
4x100 Relay
Next on the track was the 4x100 Relay, and Eliza Cardwell led off for the Mammoths, handing off to Héloïse Hughes for the second leg. They had a smooth handoff, and Héloïse handed off to Rachel Hubley for the third leg. Rachel ran a strong leg and handed off to Christa Prasertsintanah for the anchor leg, and she brought the Mammoths across the finish line in fourth place, earning five points for the team! The relay team ran a season best time of 48.62 seconds!
The Men's 4x100 Relay toed the starting line next, and Ben Bell got the Mammoths out to a strong start. Ben handed the baton to Cody Pierce who zoomed down the backstretch and handed off to Theo Woodward. Theo gave it his all and handed the baton to Jordan Harrison, who ran a stellar anchor leg to bring the Mammoths across the finish line in third place, earning six points for the team! The team crossed the finish line in a time of 41.82 seconds!

Julia Schor was the lone Mammoth to toe the line and she made the most of it, running a hard fought race to place second, earning eight points for the Mammoths! Julia positioned herself in second place for most of the race and when she was challenged, she fought to the finish line to place second in a personal best time of 4:33!
Competing in the second heat of the event, Aidan Gemme, Paolo Canigiula and Oliver Spiva gave it their all. Aidan seized the lead from the gun and pushed the pace from the front, challenging the field to go with him. When a competitor took over the lead, Aidan took the lead again and won the heat, placing fifteenth in a personal best time of 3:57! Oliver Spiva ran a smart race and moved up well, placing seventh in the heat and 22nd overall in a time of 4:04! Paolo Canigiula ran his best race of the season and moved up well, placing 16th in the heat and 31st overall in a personal best time of 4:12!
100 & 110 Hurdles Final
The Hurdles finals were huge for the Mammoths, where Alton Machen placed third in the final, earning six points for the Mammoths! Alton ran a School Record time of 15.05 seconds, a personal best time for the senior!
In the 100 Hurdles final, the Mammoths swept places third, fourth and fifth, earning 15 points for the Mammoths! Arissa McGowan placed third, earning six points for the Mammoths! Arissa ran a wind-legal personal best time of 14.72 seconds! Myeh Medina crossed the finish line in fourth place, earning five points for the Mammoths! Myeh ran her second personal best time of the day in the event, running a time of 14.76 seconds in the final! Anaya Thomas placed fifth, earning four points for the Mammoths! Anaya took a break from competing in the Triple Jump to run her second personal best time of the day in the event, running a time of 15.15 seconds in the final!
400
Casie Eifrig placed fifth in the 400, earning four points for the Mammoths! Christa Prasertsintanah placed fourth in her heat and 12th overall, running a season best time of 59.42 seconds! Halle Hannah placed second in her heat and 17th overall, running a personal best time of 1:00!
In the Men's 400, Cody Pierce ran a fantastic race, placing third to earn six points for the Mammoths! Cody ran a huge personal best time of 48.44 seconds in a deep competition! In the second heat, Jai Dreher and Jack O'Hara placed second and fourth, to place 17th and 19th overall in times of 50.63 and 50.93 seconds, respectively.

Women's Discus
The Women's Discus was pivotal for the Mammoths, as it was the highest scoring event of the day for the Mammoths! Emma Ramsingh won, earning ten points for the Mammoths! Emma broke her own School Record in the event for the second time this season, throwing a mark of 45.43 meters (149' 0") on her last throw of the day! Isabella Niemi placed fourth, earning five points for the Mammoths! Isabella threw a mark of 35.83 meters (117' 7")! Beth Martin placed seventh, earning two points for the Mammoths! Beth threw a season best throw of 33.88 meters (111' 2")!
Women's Triple Jump
The Women's Triple Jump was a strong event for the Mammoths, as three women scored! Anaya Thomas placed fourth, earning five points for the Mammoths! Anaya jumped 11.31 meters (37' 1.25") on her first jump and competed in all six jumps while competing in the 100 Hurdles Final and the High Jump! Anastasia Ioppolo needed only one jump to place sixth and earn two points for the Mammoths! Anastasia jumped a mark of 11.22 meters (36' 9.75"), a season best jump! Myeh Medina placed seventh, earning two points for the Mammoths, jumping 11.16 meters (36' 7.5") on her third jump of the day and then dashed over to compete in the 400 Hurdles! In total, the Mammoths scored 10 points in the Women's Triple Jump!
Women's High Jump
Similar to the Men's High Jump, both Mammoths scored in the Women's High Jump as Anaya Thomas tied for second place, earning seven points for the Mammoths! Anaya cleared 1.57 meters (5' 1.75") on her first attempt at the height! Leah Smith tied for fourth place, earning four points! Leah cleared the same height as Anaya, and cleared it on her second attempt at the height. Together, Anaya and Leah scored 11 points for the Mammoths!
Women's Pole Vault
Bridget Cassata placed tenth, clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2") on her first attempt! Jordan Hecker placed 12th, clearing the same height on her second attempt. Payton Sorensen placed 14th, clearing the same height on her third attempt.

100 Final
Next on the track was the 100 Final, which Jordan Harrison won for the second year in a row, earning ten points for the Mammoths! Jordan pulled away from the competition to win in a time of 10.66 seconds! Ben Bell placed sixth, earning three points for the team! Ben improved upon his eighth place showing in the prelim and ran a time of 11.25 seconds in the final!
800
Zoë Marcus placed second in the 800, earning eight points for the Mammoths! Zoë positioned herself at the front of the race from the gun and gave it her all to run a season best time of 2:11! Piper Lentz placed fourth, earning five points for the Mammoths! Piper passed two competitors in the final 200 meters of the race to run a time of 2:15! Bella Lozier placed seventh, earning two points for the Mammoths! Bella ran a strong race, running a time of 2:16! Together, all three women scored 15 points for the Mammoths!
In the Men's 800, Ben Davis placed third, earning six points for the Mammoths! Ben moved up four places in the second lap of the race to place third in a time of 1:53! Kolya Markov-Riss placed sixth, earning three points for the Mammoths! Kolya ran a time of 1:54 in a hard fought effort. Running out of the second heat, Will Nagy won his heat to place seventh overall and earn two points for the Mammoths! Will won his heat in a time of 1:54! The Mammoths scored 11 points in the event with three men and no other team had more than one runner on the team score in the event, demonstrating the depth of the Mammoths in the event!
400 Hurdles
After competing in the 100 Hurdles Prelims and Finals and Triple Jump, Myeh Medina placed second in the 400 Hurdles, earning eight points for the Mammoths! Myeh used a fantastic final 150 meters of the race to move up to second place in a personal best time of 1:03! Trintje Nydam and Artis Phillips competed in the second heat and placed sixth and seventh in the heat and 14th and 15th overall in a time of 1:07. For Trintje, it was a season best time!

Men's Triple Jump
The Men's Triple Jump was a big event for the Mammoths, as Michael Abbey won, earning ten points for the team! Michael won with a personal best jump of 14.28 meters (46' 10.25") on his second attempt! Kaleb Barrett placed third, earning six points for the Mammoths! Kaleb set a personal best with a jump of 13.83 meters (45' 4.5")! Gabe Dos Santos placed tenth, jumping 13.24 meters (43' 5.25") and Adrian Friedman placed 16th, jumping a collegiate best mark of 12.49 meters (40' 11.75"). The Mammoths earned 16 points in the event, the highest scoring event for the Mammoths of the day!
Men's Discus
All three Mammoths scored in the Men's Discus, as David Brown placed fifth, earning four points for the Mammoths! David threw a mark of 43.84 meters (143' 10")! Alex MacDonald placed sixth, earning three points for the Mammoths! Alex set a huge personal best with a throw of 42.79 meters (140' 5") on his third attempt! Jacob Shine placed seventh, earning two points for the Mammoths! Jacob threw a mark of 42.26 meters (138' 8") on his first attempt! Together, these men scored nine points for the Mammoths!

After competing in the 100 Prelims and Finals, 4x100 Relay and Long Jump, Héloïse Hughes placed seventh in the 200, earning two points for the Mammoths! Héloïse ran a time of 25.41 seconds! Competing in the same heat, Rachel Hubley placed fifth in the heat and 19th overall, running a season best time of 26.03 seconds! Olivia Tennant also competed in the same heat, placing eighth in the heat and 24th overall in a personal best time of 26.58 seconds!
After competing in the 400 and 4x100 Relay, Cody Pierce placed third in the 200, earning six points for the Mammoths! Cody ran a personal best time of 21.48 seconds and is now Second All-Time at Amherst in the event!
5,000
Julia Schor toed the line for the 5,000 after competing in the 1,500 earlier in the day and placed seventh, using a strong kick to score two points for the Mammoths! In only her second 5,000 of the season, Julia ran a time of 17:45!
The Men's 5,000 was a big event for the Mammoths as Stan Craig placed second, earning eight points for the Mammoths and Henry Dennen placed third, earning six points for the Mammoths! In total, they earned 14 points for the Mammoths in the event! After navigating a crowded first lap, Stan Craig and Henry Dennen positioned themselves in the front pack of the race. With three laps to go, a leader emerged and Stan pulled away from the chase pack and Henry did the same. Stan pulled away from the field for a second place finish in a personal best time of 14:40! Henry moved into third place, using a strong final lap to place third in a time of 14:46! Thomas Stephens ran a strong race, placing 17th in a time of 15:24.
4x400 Relay
Halle Hanna led off the Women's 4x400 Relay and handed off to Christa Prasertsintanah in fifth place! Christa ran a strong leg and moved the Mammoths into fourth place in a tight battle at the handoff to Mads Rabb. Mads ran a strong leg and handed off to Casie Eifrig in fifth place. Casie ran a very competitive leg and brought the Mammoths across the finish line in fifth place, earning four points for the team as the relay ran a season best time of 3:55!
Tom Ye led off the Men's 4x400 Relay, and he handed the baton to Jack O'Hara in seventh place. Jack held the team's position and handed off to Jai Dreher, who also held the team's position in third place. Jai passed off to Cody Pierce, who ran a fantastic anchor leg to move the Mammoths into sixth place in the heat and seventh place overall, earning two points for the Mammoths!
4x800 Relay
Bella Lozier led off for the Mammoths in the Women's 4x800 Relay, running a strong leg and keeping the Mammoths in the mix as she handed off in third place, in touch with the race leaders, to Ava Zielinski for the second leg! Ava ran a fantastic leg, immediately putting the Mammoths back with the lead pack and competed every second, handing off to Piper Lentz for the third leg! Piper ran a stellar leg, moving into the lead 200 meters into the race and she never relinquished the lead as she handed off to Zoë Marcus for the anchor leg in the lead! Zoë got the baton in the lead and never looked back, extending the lead to bring the Mammoths to victory, earning ten points for the team by winning the event in a time of 9:15!
Ian Dopp led off the Men's 4x800 Relay after running an incredible race in the 3,000 Steeplechase earlier in the day, and ran a competitive leg to hand off to Kolya Markov-Riss in fifth place. Kolya ran a hard-fought leg to hand off to Will Nagy in fourth place! Will Nagy ran a strong leg and closed well to hand off to Ben Davis in third place. Ben battled for the whole race and especially in the final 100 meters of the race, edging out a third place finish to earn six points for the Mammoths! The Mammoths finished in a time of 7:43!
Team Scores
Both teams battled all day long and both placed second, the highest finishes in program history for both teams! The Women placed second scoring 136 points.
The Men placed second scoring 151.5 points!
We are so proud of the Mammoths for all of their efforts in making the 2024 NESCAC Track and Field Championships a historic day for the Amherst Track & Field program! It was truly a team effort!

UP NEXT for the Mammoths is the D3 New England Championships on Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th. The meet will be hosted by Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
