A message from Miss Quarmby
Hello! We’re still buzzing with excitement from the Christmas Fair on Wednesday! Having Santa, his elf, and even the Grinch under one roof made it an unforgettable event. A huge thank you to the PTA for organising, to all our stall holders and volunteers, and of course, to our amazing families for coming along to support. While the fair was a highlight, it wasn’t the only big event this week! Mrs. Johnson, Headteacher from Colton Primary School, visited us to observe behaviour, and she was incredibly impressed by how polite and focused on learning our children are—what fantastic feedback! Year 2 had a wonderful time on their school trip to Abbey House Museum, and we were thrilled to welcome Miss Ferns back from her maternity leave on Thursday. With just two weeks left of term, we’ve got a jam-packed schedule ahead. Hopefully, you’ve seen my letter detailing next week’s events. We’ll also post reminders on Class Dojo, so keep an eye out for updates there. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and we look forward to seeing many of you at our events next week!

Attendance
This week, finishing in first place with 98.56% are 1JL. In second place are 1LR, with 97.92% and in third place are, 5AK with 97.62%. A shout out also goes to 4AS AND 3RD, who have also finished the week above our school target of 96.5%. The whole school attendance this week is 94.8%: can we beat this next week? The only way to do that is if we all come to school as often as we can.
Let's take a look AT WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON THIS WEEK
EYFS
What a magical week in Reception. On Monday, the children had a very special elf delivery from Santa and learned that throughout December our class elves Cookie (RJS) and bauble (RLE) will be flying back to Santa each night to tell him all about their learning. Then the children decorated the classroom and role-play area to celebrate Christmas and learned about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. In Forest School, the children created elf homes and in the outdoor area we created Santa's sleigh. What an action-packed week! Next week, the children will perform their first Nativity and we cannot wait to share the Christmas joy with our Whitkirk families.
Key Stage 1
In Year 1, our mischievous classroom elves have appeared ready for Christmas and causing chaos! They have inspired us to plan writing a postcard to Santa Claus, letting him know what they've been up to in our classrooms. In History this week, we enjoyed learning about music from the past. We learned to sing The Beatles and the dance moves for the 'Hand Jive!'
Year 2 have had an exciting week, getting into the festive spirit by decorating our classroom tree. In History, we explored fascinating Victorian artefacts and had a wonderful time playing with traditional toys during our visit to Abbey House Museum. In Maths, we’ve begun learning all about 3D shapes and their properties!
Lower Key Stage 2
What a super week in Year 3! We have enjoyed welcoming our class elf to help us with our Christmas poetry writing unit. We are busy creating our own renditions of 'Twas the night before Christmas'. We can't wait to share them..In History, we have been lucky to receive some real Stone Age artefacts from the museum! We have explored them within classes this week and applied them to what we have already learned about the first people in Britain. How exciting!
In History, Year 4 have loved learning about the Romans and their amazing inventions. We learned about aqueducts and created our own one using cardboard boxes and tubes.
Upper Key Stage 2
Year 5 and 6 have had an utterly fabulous week! On Monday, we all had our DT day, where we designed and made bread! We learned about how bread is made at present vs historically, the importance of yeast, and we evaluated existing products. We followed a recipe and then added different things including cheese, cinnamon and rosemary based on what we found out from our market research. Everyone's bread looked delicious and we are sure you have heard all about it!
