A Morning in Maine Sailing Tours The possibilities are endless...

A Morning in Maine Sailing Tours has been operating in Rockland since 1998. Captain Tyler Waterson started operating the boat in collaboration with the Sail, Power & Steam Museum in 2022.

Rockland is a great place to run a sailing tour business. We have a big, beautiful, working harbor that has so much potential and so much history. Rockland Harbor, with its unique breakwater and lighthouse are iconic and memorable, and there is a huge appeal for visitors and locals alike to get out and enjoy the harbor and bay.

We have beautiful, pristine islands that are open to the public within an hour's sail. The energy and community spirit in Rockland's downtown and entrepreneurs has lead to great collaborations and networking opportunities, especially through Rockland Main Street and all of our community events. There is room to grow and expand in Rockland, and we have some of the best sailing grounds in the world!

Rockland's waterfront is under-utilized and there is a disconnect between our downtown Main Street and the waterfront. On the other hand, the development that does seem to be succeeding on the waterfront, i.e. residential and marinas, puts our working waterfront and heritage industries such as fishing at risk. The development of Rockland as a place to visit and enjoy outdoor ocean activities needs to be balanced with preserving heritage industries and working waterfront access.

We are very fortunate to occupy space in the City of Rockland's municipal waterfront, but this also presents its own challenges. There's lots of exciting plans for our city waterfront properties, but in the meantime our infrastructure and facilities are pretty out of date!

We are excited to build and grow with Rockland and our community through a fun variety of collaborations. We just started our Monroe Island Adventures in 2023 and I see a lot of exploring the nearby islands in our future. Also, more fun educational programs like our Science Under Sail trips with Herring Gut Coastal Science Center.

One of the biggest areas for growth is building our onboard food and beverage service, which opens up a lot more fun collaborations and experiences we can create out on the water and with island lobster bakes, etc.

Don't forget live music sails with local musicians! The possibilities are endless.
