Carly Michels is a dedicated member of the volleyball team from Teutopolis, Ill. She cherishes being an aunt to two little boys and is supported by a loving family that includes her parents, Curt and Sandy Michels, and two older siblings. Known for her love of summer days at the lake house and shopping trips, Carly brings joy and energy to everything she does.
What is your major? Business administration with a minor in marketing.
What are your favorite aspects of sports and why? I love the competitive aspect as well as meeting new people and making lifelong friendships.
Who is your inspiration and why? Michael Jordan because he had a great mentality and made his teammates around him better.
What is your favorite non-athletic memory at UIS? Monday night worship every week with CSF.
What is your favorite athletics memory at UIS? Going 4-0, sweeping every team at our tournament in Texas this season.
Why did you choose UIS? It is close to home, I played at LLCC so I was comfortable and familiar with Springfield. Also, Coach Jones.
What was it like transferring to UIS? Transferring to UIS was challenging at first because the level of play was higher than junior college. With that said, the girls made it easier by taking me under their wing.
What is your outlook on your senior season? I want to have fun and not take it for granted. I really want to emphasize staying grateful for this opportunity that God has given me. I’ll keep soaking it all in and enjoying being part of this team. And of course, I’ll continue to play to win every day, giving everything I have.
What do you want your lasting legacy to be as a student-athlete at UIS? I want to seen and remembered as person that you can tell loves God more than anything. I also want to be known as a good friend and teammate.
