Kung hei fat choi! Happy lunar new year! Nursery and Reception have loved learning all about Chinese New Year this week! There has been red, gold and yellow everywhere! If you didn't already know, it is the year of the dragon 🐉
Nursery have been so busy! They have made pink blossom cards, Chinese lanterns and Chinese dragon hand prints. They also had a go at cutting out a Chinese dragon spiral with scissors.
Nursery listened carefully to the story of the Chinese zodiac race and then were re-enacting this in class and in the yard. They all thought the rat was so sneaky for jumping on the Ox's back!
Reception listened to the story of the animals and found out what year they were born in. They practiced ordinal numbers by sequencing animals as they crossed the river and even wrote their own name in Chinese!
They made lanterns, purses, paper chain dragons and even had a go at building the Great Wall of China!
At the end of the week, Nursery and Reception had two exciting events! Firstly they had a Chinese New Year party where they tried Chinese food- noodles, rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls! Blasus iawn!
Nursery were so lucky, Reception performed a dragon dance for them after the Chinese food... then Reception went on a big walk to show the rest of the school! 🐉🥰
To round off our week, we celebrated Welsh Music Day/Dydd Miwsig Cymru with Mr Green and some 'big school' children. They very kindly came down to sing to us and Mr Green played the piano for us to listen to! What a treat! 🎹🎶
Wishing everyone a very restful and fun half term 🥰
