2023 In Review: Part 2, July-Dec Pawsburgh Photography 01.20.2024

July 2023

Updated my display at the Focus on the Arts Gallery at Pittsburgh Mills, Tarentum ~ Met a lovely lady who gifted me Mt. Alvernia history books and gave me a tour of the Alverno Apartments the Sisters started ~ Visited with my friend who hired me to create these photos for her stairway! Her grandfather helped build all those churches and buildings! (As you can see, one of them wasn't framed yet haha)
Have you ever been to Banjo Night at the Elks, North Side or Slobberfest just south of Erie? This year, we met a new Air BnB owner, but they've now turned it into a private residence again, and her preacher husband speaking at the church next door in Corry! Beautiful weekend!
Intense skies at Mt. Alvernia, Millvale ~ A modern architecture party celebrating the Overlooks and Mt. Washington with the Modern Committee of Preservation Pittsburgh ~ St. Philip Catholic church, rectory, former school, and old graveyard in Crafton.
Any day I get to hang out in the 1862 Gothic Singer Mansion is a good day!

August 2023

A fun mid-mod time capsule for sale in Dravosburg ~ Brookline Breeze Fest ~ Another cute house sold in Baldwin Twp.
August ended with a summer Halloween party (we call it Haugustween!) and then hours spent at Sacred Heart in Shadyside. There's so much here, it's nearly impossible to pick a few favorites!

September 2023

September kicked off on a beautiful day in North Park! One of my friends gets gorgeous photos of birds and I wanted to know how she does it! I don't have a long enough lens haha.
A fantastic day for our Sacred Spaces tour with a professional dance troupe!
St. Louise de Marillac in Bethel Park ~ Back to North Park for another beautiful day! I was brave, and stepped up and turned the door handle and IN we go to that little old church!
Doors Open Pittsburgh neighborhood tour - South Side ~ I volunteered part of the day so I only made it to most of the churches! They're the most important anyway! Holy Assumption of St. Mary Orthodox, St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox, St. Adalbert Catholic Churches.
Asian Lantern Festival at the Pittsburgh Zoo
An autumn tour at Mt. Alvernia

October 2023

St. Thomas More, Bethel Park ~ Autumn and Beagles at Northmoreland Park, Apollo ~ Another beautiful house that sold fast, Brookline
The Downtown Partnership's "Views and Brews" tour downtown was a phenomenal experience visiting buildings I've always wanted to get into! For the next to last one, I asked the docent to turn out the lights! And the Century Building rooftop (photo 3) I ended up having all to myself. Ahhhhhmazing!
Our Pittsburgh Modern Committee of Preservation Pittsburgh is just incredible. This day was pouring down rain, but we were troopers and toured four houses, two of which are featured here. The first didn't allow photos inside!! The last was toured with a neighbor and I have too much as it is, so I focused on these two incredible properties. One is a round house, and the other felt like it was a round house lol. Both allowed me whatever photos I wanted and were super gracious!
Sts. Peter and Paul mid-century modern church and Beaver Station, Beaver ~ Beth Abraham Cemetery, Carrick ~ Doors Open Pittsburgh tour of Pittsburgh Stained Glass Studios, West End
Keystone State Park, Derry ~ Historic Hanna's Town ~ St. Bartholomew, Crabtree
Lake Elizabeth, Allegheny Commons Park, and Garden Theatre project open house (now apartments) with Q Development, and Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church, McKeesRocks

November 2023

Built as the Alcoa Clubhouse, then sold to the Citizens General Hospital School of Nursing, this space has been The River Community Church for the last decade. They're moving out and gave my camera club a tour. Another incredible, long-awaited opportunity!
Autumn walk through Beechwood Nature Reserve, Fox Chapel and the incredible sunset after!
Allegheny Branch House Lofts, a Q Development project, originally the International Harvester Corp. headquarters. This former industrial building is becoming beautiful apartments! All new kitchens and bathrooms while keeping much of the character of the building. Incredible views! Walk to Allegheny Commons Park! Pre-leasing is about to begin, North Side.

December 2023

Brookline Festival of Trees ~ St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at Advent, Beechview ~ Stargazing ~ Pittsburgh Brewing Company, Creighton ~ Phipps Botanical Gardens
Not many iconic Pizza Huts left! Lower Burrell ~ Final sunset off my Mom's back porch, Arnold ~ Ash's Tap House, Arnold ~ St. Anne's Catholic Church, Castle Shannon ~ Christmas Eve in the city of Pittsburgh ~ Sacred Heart, Shadyside and St. Raphael Catholic Church, Morningside, decorated for Christmas.

If you've made it this far, God bless you! 2023 was an incredible year for adventure and photos. Obviously I'm not good at condensing and picking favorites! I have new favorites almost every day. Thank you for coming along for the ride! I love sharing all the cool things I find around town. It's a great place to never be bored!
