Pre-K showcases Apple-Themed unit
Otselic Valley’s preschool class recently wrapped up their apple-themed learning unit with a special classroom event for families. Students were excited to share what they had learned through hands-on activities, artwork, and projects inspired by the theme. Families joined in the fun and saw firsthand how their children explored early learning skills through creativity and play.
The event featured eight interactive centers designed to reinforce skills across ELA, science, math, and fine motor development. Here's a brief overview of the key concepts explored:
- Letter A: Students practiced identifying, writing, and producing the sound of both uppercase and lowercase “A,” connecting it to words like “apple.”
- Parts of an Apple: Using magnifying glasses, students examined apple parts up close. The parts were skin, flesh, seeds, stem, and core. They were amazed to find the “star” shape inside when the apple was cut crosswise.
- Apple Life Cycle: Students learned how an apple grows from a seed to a tree that produces fruit. Students sequenced the stages through hands-on crafts.
- Types of Apples: The class explored the different colors and varieties of apples and compared their textures and appearances.
- Apple Taste Test: Students and families sampled red, green, and yellow apples, then charted their favorite. This incorporated simple data collection and early graphing skills.
- Fine Motor Crafts were displayed around the room: Several art activities, like making apple trees, apples and letter A crafts, supported fine motor development in a fun, engaging way.
The Apple Showcase provided a meaningful way for students to connect their learning with real-world experiences and gave families a chance to be part of the classroom community. It was a huge success and a lot of fun!
