8th Grade Mock Trial Brings Classic Literature to Life

As part of their annual Horror Unit, Otselic Valley 8th graders are preparing to bring Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart to life in a unique and engaging way -- through a mock trial for the murder of the Old Man.

Students are taking on roles from the story and the courtroom, developing arguments, testimonies, and evidence to present before a live jury. Presiding over the trial will be Mr. Wentworth, a local lawyer and parent, who will act as judge and speak with students about careers in law and the legal system. Adding to the experience, OV seniors will serve as jurors, continuing a tradition they fondly remember from their own time in middle school. The mock trial will take place on October 30th and 31st, offering a memorable blend of literature, critical thinking, and real-world learning.
