Science Week!

Week 3

This week we have been celebrating Science Week with lots of exciting activities!

On Monday we welcomed the Science Week theme of 'Curiosity.' Our special task was to be curious in the kitchen, where we became scientists and bakers! We were curious about the ingredients in bread and which ones help it cook properly, so we carried out an experiment to investigate.

We baked two bread buns, one with yeast and one without, to investigate the effect of yeast on bread. After baking, we observed that the bun containing yeast rose and became light and fluffy, while the bun without yeast remained flatter and denser.

Later in the week, we investigated conductors and insulators through melting ice cubes. We wrapped ice cubes in different materials to see which ones would make the ice melt faster and which would help keep it from melting. We observed what happened and timed how long the ice cubes lasted.

On Wednesday, the children had an amazing day as part of the Raising Readers project. This was our first session with the group, where the children were gifted their own books, made bookmarks and worked alongside brilliant volunteers to learn more about reading and discover wonderful books!

In STEM Club with the Newcastle United Foundation, the children worked with a programmable floor robot. They practised giving the device clear instructions to help it navigate across the floor, carefully planning and testing their algorithms!
