Levossie Taylor:legacy, leadership, love By Alyssia DeAnne Zepeda

Standing at 5’11”, Levossie Taylor has always been a force on the basketball court.

Originally from Selma/Princeton, North Carolina, she played at North Raleigh Christian Academy before making her way to North Carolina A&T.

Now a graduate student studying kinesiology, she dreams of becoming a physical therapist, and enjoying all life has to offer, from modeling, volunteering, and more.

"My family’s support has meant everything to me," Levossie Taylor said. "They’ve shown me the power of perseverance and believing in yourself, especially my little sister."

She is a first-generation college student, an achievement she takes great pride in. Her parents, Walter and Teresa Taylor, have been her biggest supporters, always encouraging her to chase her dreams.

Freshman Year: Adjusting to the Collegiate Level

In her first year, she played in 12 games, averaging 1.1 points and 1.5 rebounds over 6.8 minutes per game. Despite limited playing time, she showcased her potential with a season-high four points in games against Averett (Jan. 3) and North Carolina Central (Feb. 28).

Additionally, they recorded a season-best four rebounds in matchups against South Carolina State (Jan. 10) and North Carolina Central (Feb. 28).

Sophomore Year: Increasing Efficiency

Her role expanded slightly, participating in 13 games while maintaining a steady presence off the bench. She improved her scoring average to 2.3 points per game and maintained 1.5 rebounds in 7.6 minutes of play. Efficiency became a key highlight, as they shot 41.7% from the field and an impressive 87.5% from the free-throw line.

A standout performance came on Nov. 29 against South Carolina State, where she posted her first career double-digit scoring game with 10 points on 4-for-4 free-throw shooting and 3-for-4 from the field, along with a season-high five rebounds.

Junior Year: Strengthening Contributions

She played in 26 games, including one start, and continued to develop her presence on the court. Averaging 1.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 10.9 minutes per game, she made an impact, particularly in rebounding.

She recorded a career-high six rebounds on four occasions: against NCCU (Dec. 21), at Elon (Feb. 3), against William & Mary (Feb. 12), and at Delaware (March 2). Her offensive contributions also shined in key moments, including a season-high seven-point effort on 3-for-6 shooting in a 68-60 victory over Stony Brook on Jan. 20.

Late into the season, she suffered an ACL injury but worked through rehabilitation to return to the game stronger; ongoing knee issues have limited her at times.

Beyond basketball, Taylor is actively involved in student organizations and community initiatives.

As a graduate student, she enjoys mentoring younger athletes, sharing her experiences to help them navigate the pressures of collegiate sports and being an asset to the team in a different way.

Through this experience she is learning that she really spires to get more into coaching.

Taylor is also interested in modeling and fashion, using any opportunity to dress up and express her personality and unique style.

"College is about more than just sports and academics," Levossie Taylor said. "It’s about building relationships and growing as a person."

Additionally, she participates in wellness and fitness groups on campus, promoting physical and mental health among students.

She deeply values her friendships and feels blessed to have maintained strong relationships both within her team and outside of it since freshman year. Taylor also enjoys going out and making the most of her youth, embracing every opportunity to create lasting memories.
