Redmile Primary School has shown that even a small village school can make a big difference, raising an impressive £614 at its recent Macmillan Coffee Morning. The event drew families, friends and local residents together for a lively morning filled with homemade cakes, performances, and plenty of good cheer. Pupils were at the heart of the occasion, entertaining guests with singing and helping to run a range of activities — including a well-loved tombola — which added to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Staff praised the children for their enthusiasm and teamwork, and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed. “We are incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful to everyone who came along, donated or supported in any way,” a staff member said. “To raise £614 as such a small school is a fantastic achievement and shows what a caring community we have.” All funds raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting people living with cancer and their families across the UK.

Their smiles throughout the evening said it all – they were clearly loving every moment of the experience! We are immensely proud of every child who has taken part. Reaching the final is a wonderful achievement and a testament to their hard work and commitment. We can’t wait to cheer them on again at the final. Well done Team Frisby!

St Peter and St Paul CE Academy

After months of refurbishment, we have finally opened our new SEN unit ‘The Orchard’. We had a grand opening that was attended by representatives of the local authority, staff, parents and included a special performance by our school choir.  It has been wonderful to see how quickly the children have settled into their new provision and are really enjoying the new facilities especially the sensory room. Miss Ferns, who is our specialist SEN teacher, has also been working with children across the school to teach them Makaton which we have all really enjoyed.

We are incredibly proud of Bea, Georgia and Primrose in Year 6, who represented Rutland at the Primary County Cross Country Finals on Saturday 1st March. Competing at county level, the Rutland squad were crowned gold medal winners — a fantastic achievement. Their success reflects real dedication, resilience and teamwork. Running success continues with Year 5 pupil Heather, who is completing multiple Parkrun events while raising money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. Her determination and compassion are inspiring. Well done to all our runners — wonderful ambassadors for Tugby and true role models for our school community.

Albert Village Primary School Launches ‘Kindness Ambassadors’ Initiative to Celebrate Positive Behaviour   Albert Village Primary School is proud to announce the launch of its new Kindness Ambassadors initiative, a pupil-led programme designed to recognise, encourage and celebrate acts of kindness across the school community. Rooted firmly in the school’s core values of Kindness, Integrity and Excellence, the initiative currently has pupils from Year 2 through to Year 5 taking on leadership roles that promote positive behaviour and inclusion. The idea was developed following discussions between pupils and Mrs Machin, Year 3 teacher, as a way to further embed kindness into daily school life while giving children a sense of responsibility and pride.    How the Kindness Ambassadors Programme Works  Kindness Ambassadors are responsible for creating their own Kindness Tokens, which they award when they notice a peer demonstrating an exceptional act of kindness. Each token is personalised with the pupil’s name and placed into a large, shiny Kindness Box. At the end of every half term, one token is drawn during assembly, and the selected pupil receives a prize, giving the whole school an opportunity to celebrate together.  Aims of the Initiative  The Kindness Ambassadors programme has several key aims:

  • Promote a culture of kindness by encouraging pupils to notice, value and celebrate thoughtful actions.
  • Empower student leadership by giving Ambassadors meaningful daily responsibilities that build confidence and accountability.
  • Recognise positive behaviour through a consistent and visible reward system using Kindness Tokens.
  • Build a strong sense of community by celebrating kindness collectively during assemblies.
  • Encourage peer role modelling, with Ambassadors championing the school’s behaviour expectations.

Cheryl Lott, Headteacher of Albert Village Primary School, added:  “Kindness is at the heart of everything we do at Albert Village Primary School. The Kindness Ambassadors initiative gives our pupils a powerful voice in shaping a positive, inclusive environment, while recognising that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. We are incredibly proud of our ambassadors and the example they set every day.”   Choosing the Ambassadors  The programme was introduced to pupils during a whole-school assembly, after which children were invited to apply in writing to the Headteacher. This ensured that pupils who took on the role were genuinely motivated to promote kindness and inclusion.  Staff Support and School Ethos  Staff at Albert Village Primary School actively support the initiative by modelling kindness in their daily interactions with pupils, parents and colleagues. The school recognises that kindness is especially important for children who may be struggling, even when it is not shown in conventional ways.  A Year 5 pupil and Kindness Ambassador shared their motivation for applying:  “The reason I wanted to be a kindness ambassador is because I wanted to encourage more people to be kind to others and show the school values and rules. We should not be cruel when people are different or have different interests. We should encourage pupils to be kind despite their likes or dislikes.”  A Lasting Impact  By combining pupil leadership, creativity and recognition, the Kindness Ambassadors initiative strengthens Albert Village Primary School’s commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate children and a supportive whole-school community.

We were delighted to welcome Attie Lime, a talented local poet from North West Leicestershire, to spend the day with us in school. Attie began the day by leading a fantastic collective worship where she performed a range of her poems for the whole school. Her lively and engaging performance included plenty of audience participation – and even a few paper aeroplanes flying across the hall! It was wonderful for the children to see the huge variety of poems Attie has written and to realise that poetry can be playful, imaginative and full of fun. One pupil summed it up perfectly, saying, “I didn’t know poems could be so fun!” Throughout the day, Attie also led workshops with every class, giving all of our pupils the chance to become poets themselves. The sessions were packed with creativity, including puppet characters, more poetry readings and the creation of whole-class poems inspired by the children’s own wonderful ideas and imagination. The excitement and confidence the children showed when experimenting with words was fantastic to see. One child even declared, “I want to be a poem writer when I’m big,” while another reminded us of one of the best lessons from the day: “You can be as silly and creative as you want – there’s no rules!” It was a truly inspiring visit and a brilliant way to celebrate the joy of reading, writing and creativity in the lead-up to World Book Day.
