Deputy Headteacher's Message
Dear family and friends of SJV, I hope this email finds you well and you are looking forward to the promise of some sunshine over the next week. Our pupils have experienced many valuable opportunities over the past half term, culminating this week in our ‘Live Simply’ Day. During this day, we aimed to reconnect with nature and reduce our use of technology. The children responded very positively and thoroughly enjoyed the range of activities prepared by Mr Dumville. Some of our pupils who will be leaving us in September have already taken part in transition events at their next placements. As a school, we are fully committed to supporting our young people as they take their next steps beyond SJV. We have also begun our transition programme for our incoming Year 7 pupils, who will be joining us in September. We are delighted to be welcoming a larger cohort this year, as the school continues to grow. This is an exciting time for SJV and we look forward to working closely with new families to support their child’s transition. For those pupils who will be moving into our Post-16 provision, a transition meeting will take place with Mr Kanakides and myself on 17th June at 1:45pm. Further information will be shared by Mr Kanakides in due course. As we come to the end of this half term I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. Positive parent and school links are integral to us achieving the best outcomes for our pupils. Best wishes, Kirsten Nesbitt, Deputy Headteacher

Our Catholic School
Our prayer focus this week has encouraged us all to reflect on our relationship with Jesus and how we respond to His call in our daily lives:
"If Jesus calls us to be friends, let us not leave this call unheeded. Let us welcome it and take care of this relationship."
- Pope Leo XIV
This week, representatives from our Chaplaincy team attended a Pentecost Retreat at Just Youth, joining other schools from the Salford Diocese. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, deepen our spirituality and connect personally with other Chaplaincy and GIFT teams across the diocese. The experience was both uplifting and enriching for all involved. Our voluntary student Mass continues to flourish every Friday, with around a quarter of our student community attending each week. It is truly heartening to see so many young people choosing to express their faith and gather in worship together – it is a special part of our school week. In RE lessons, students have been enjoying a ‘MAD’ (Make A Difference) approach to their work. This has involved looking back over their learning from the half term, reflecting thoughtfully on their progress and identifying ways to improve. We have been incredibly impressed with the effort shown in their green pen work and students have every reason to feel proud of their hard work over the past few weeks.

Holiday Water Safety: A Reminder for All Families
With the school holidays approaching, it’s important to revisit key water‑safety guidance. Whether visiting a swimming pool, the coast, or inland waterways, preparation and awareness help prevent accidents. The RNLI’s Float to Live guidance is a proven lifesaving technique. If someone falls into water unexpectedly, floating on the back allows the body to recover from cold‑water shock and reduces the risk of drowning. Float to Live guidance includes:
- Lie back in the water with ears submerged.
- Use arms and legs for balance rather than swimming.
- Control breathing until calm.
- Signal or shout for help once stable.
Additional safety reminders:
- Children should always be supervised near water.
- Cold water can be dangerous even in warm weather.
- Currents, tides, and underwater hazards may not be visible.
- Inflatable toys are unsafe in open water.
To find our more useful information from the RNLI click on the link; https://rnli.org/safety/float We encourage all families to discuss these steps and enjoy a safe, happy break.
