2025 HEERF Software Tools Transition

During the pandemic, CSUN utilized Federal HEERF funding to license technology platforms for remote instruction. With HEERF funding concluded, and some campus-wide licenses set to expire in 2025, Academic Technology has developed resources and training for this transition. You can learn more about which tools are going away, which tools will continue, and explore alternatives on the HEERF Software Tools Transition page.

Tools Affected:

If you have any questions or need personalized support during this transition, please contact the Faculty Technology Center. Our team is here to support you and ensure a smooth transition to new tools and resources.

Artificial Intelligence with CSUN Academic Technology

CSUN AI Information

Remember to create an Artificial Intelligence statement for your course(s). For help getting started, consider reviewing the Campus Memorandum on Guidance on Maintaining Academic Integrity in an Artificial Intelligence World and the Sample AI Syllabus Statements curated by CSUN’s Faculty Development team.

AI Guideance Video

In a world where AI is increasingly part of the academic landscape, it’s important to know what to do if a student’s assignment gets flagged with a high AI detection score. Watch this video collaboratively created by CSUN's Office of Student Conduct in partnership with Academic Technology to discover practical tips from identifying key red flags to navigating conversations with students, all while fostering academic integrity.

AI Syllabus Statement Help

Dr. Joyce Marie Brusasco, one of the Academic Technology Fellows, has put together incredible resources for drafting your own AI Syllabus Statement.

Talk to Your Students about Artificial Intelligence

Wondering how to talk to your students about artificial intelligence? Academic Technology has you covered! This train-the-teacher-to-train-the-student workshop helps faculty give students an overview of AI. It covers the background of AI and the integrity of prompting, assignment use, ethics, and caution about when students should consider using AI. Faculty will have access to the slides to use in their classrooms.

Learning Initiative For Teaching with Artificial Intelligence (LIFT-AI)

The Learning Initiative For Teaching and Artificial Intelligence (LIFT AI) community is a collaborative virtual space where faculty, staff, and the Academic Technology team explore and learn together about the benefits and challenges of AI in teaching and learning.

Faculty and staff at CSUN are encouraged to join the community as...

  • A faculty or staff member interested in the use of artificial intelligence on campus
  • Curious about AI, no matter your current level of experience or knowledge
  • Looking to explore AI's potential in your field or work

Canvas Resources, News, & Updates

What's New in Canvas?

Canvas is rolling out some exciting updates! Whether it’s using AI to summarize lengthy discussion threads, trying out the new Smart Search feature to quickly find course content, or letting Canvas automatically mark withdrawn students as “inactive,” these tools are designed to save you time.

CSUN Canvas Template

The CSUN Canvas Template is a framework of best practices to help you set up your Canvas course. This resource for CSUN Faculty was developed by Academic Technology, Faculty Development and Faculty Fellows, and was created with the CSU’s Quality Learning and Teaching Standards, equity-minded teaching, and universal design and accessibility principles in mind.

Student Technology Resources Module

Perhaps you do not wish to have a full Canvas Course template integrated with your materials at this time, Academic Technology has you covered! The Student Technology Resources Module was created by our expert staff to provide curated CSUN resources for your students, as a standalone module to be imported into any of your CSUN Canvas courses.

Canvas Insights

Faculty can now leverage Canvas Insights to quickly identify and contact students who have not logged into Canvas during the preceding two weeks. After generating the report, faculty have the option to email students directly through Insights using available templates or a custom message. This proactive outreach to students can be especially impactful during the first few weeks of the semester. For help getting started, visit Canvas Insights or join a workshop. Academic Technology will be offering increased frequency of Canvas Insights workshops. Be sure to keep an eye on our Workshop Calendar to register when you are able to learn more from our expert team.

Accessibility Resources

As part of CSUN’s commitment to excellence through diversity and inclusion, all learning and course materials distributed to students must be made accessible. This means all materials including digital hand-outs, videos, software, and course content within a learning environment, such as Canvas, must follow accessibility and universal design requirements to enhance student learning and ensure all students have access to information regardless of any disabilities.

Panopto Resources

Panopto is CSUN’s online video platform for recording, hosting, and sharing video. With Panopto, you can simultaneously record video from a webcam, capture your screen, and audio from a microphone, or upload your own video files. Panopto also makes any classroom on campus lecture capture-ready. With Panopto's integration with Canvas, you can share your videos throughout your courses wherever you find the Rich Content Editor. Once in Panopto, you can share your videos with students, anyone in the CSUN community, and beyond. With Zoom Cloud Recording enabled, your meetings are automatically imported.

Duo for Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your online accounts. Verifying your identity using a second factor (like your phone or other mobile device) prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password. CSUN uses Duo multi-factor authentication for any application that stores or processes Level 1 Confidential information.
